Default Supercharger or no Supercharger?

I have been saving up for a supercharger as i want some more power to my car. I chose the super b/c i do want a warrenty and I just want a little more power and be done with it.

But lately i've been reading post of blown engines and a lot of them deal with cars carrying superchargers, so i'm going to ask the question, is the supercharger bad for the stock engine with no upgraded internals? or should i just forget it and use my money on something else?

I want my car to last over 4K miles on the s/c like some of the ones who have had their engines blown.

My car already has 40K miles on it so the car's warrenty is already gone.

so are you worried about losing the supercharger or your motor?
some people have had issues with the SC and some have pushed the hell out of it with no problems.
if your worried about it, dont do it. if your a little risky, go for it

either way, it's a lot easier to blow your engine...once it's blown(t/c or s/c) When you go boosted, either way, you need to make sure you have the money to fix it when crap happens and also to make it more efficient and safe anyway. It's not cheap to go boosted...no matter which way you go

the problems you read about were because of bad bearings, and seals in the superchargers, and because of crappy installs by dealerships that never did anything more complicated than an oil change and tire rotation. also, the transmission mounting bracket has been changed and will not have the breaking problems that it did have.

and if anything does go wrong, you are covered by your warranty so long as it is unmodified.

but yeah, super and turbo charging puts more strain on the engine period.

Ok, back from school, glad finals are over...

Anyways, ok..

I still want to go supercharged, yes i know of a dealership around here who has installed the supercharger before. Thats the one i plan on using. I do understand the extra strain that is put on the motor... but i don't drive it too hard. but i'm still new when it comes to forced induction....

So with that in mind...

As long as my car stays pretty reliable and last a good 2 years more (Atleast) as thats when it gets paid off....

It will be fine to me..

however, are there any upgrades i can do to make it less stressful and maybe lengthen the life of a boosted motor?

nothing that is really cost effective. you could buy forged internals and have it rebuilt last longer, but that is pretty much the same price as well...buying a new engine anyway.

i wouldn't worry about it, it has been months since i've read a thread about people haven't problems with both stock and modified superchargers. i think trd got all the kinks out and made sure that the dealerships have qualified techs to do the installs.

I have plans to eventually supercharge my tC in a few years. Although turbo yields more power, I'm trying to keep my goal of a reliable daily driven car. Plus, I don't think I have the money to deal with turbos and the maintenance they require. I'm pretty certain TRD knows that they are doing when they created the supercharger that utilizes stock components. The only thing I'm worried about is being able to pay for 91 gas regularly. Gasoline prices are rising every day, and I'm concerned it just won't be practical to once I get around to getting the supercharger.

Yeah, Well here in B'ham premmy is only 20 cents more per galon and i fill up about 4 times a month... and about 9 galons or so each time which is only like 10 bucks extra a month... which is easy.

i've played around with the idea for one....
but realistically i probably won't have it until '09.

if you slap one on at about 45k. can you expect your car to last at least 150k?
(as long as you properly maintain it)

any input would be appreciated.

it will be fine so long as you maintain it and don't abuse it. these are freaking toyotas here, not crappy domestics.

How does Toyota know when you install a trd s/c yourself? You have a 1yr warranty if installed yourself... 3yrs if installed by toyota techs.

There is a warranty card that you fill out and submit to TRD if you install it yourself, if the dealer installs it then you have the remaining balance of your 5 year/60K mile powertrain warranty guys. Where did you get 3 years warranty? Also if you install the s/c yourself, there is a 1 year warranty on the PARTS only. To the OP, since you finally mentioned you have an 06 id definitely jump on it if I were you. The 05-06 s/c can be had for about $1900 shipped brand new in box from TRDsparks!!!! Plus if you have 40k miles right now that means you still have 20k more miles to go under warranty! DO IT!!!!

I romp it and nothing here until yesterday when I broke my pulley tensioner, eh I guess it is what it is though. I do have 70k though and the blower has been on for about 10k.
