Default T/C or S/C

Before just voting for anything, please read this whole post and look at the situation..

ok, i'm lookin for that little bit more umph from the tC...who isn't?

so, next step is FI...but which kit....??

i have the money for a nice turbo set-up, but the warranty issues are stalling me....

i know the sc is warranted, and that is good since i will be in college, andi dont have any money to throw at an engine swap, nor do i have another car to drive while i am getting that engine.....so if something goes wrong i just choke someone at the dealership and it gets fixed(after the assualt charge is taken care of)

but there is so much room to grow with a turbo...i mean 60+ more HP at the same boost.....thats gotta say something.....

basically the thing i'm asking is this

is the s/c worth its money???

whats the upkeep with a turbo(problems, i mean anything, as I am a newb to FI)?

thanks guys

The Supercharger is the best way to go for those who depend on warranty and little upkeep/ lack of technical FI knowledge.

But, realistically, the SC warranty is only good as long as you don't get powerhungry and change the pulley or header and such... and the lack of power to price ratio tells everyone something... you have to mod the heck out of the SC to get the same results of a much better priced t/c setup...

It's a hard call for the newbie to the F/I world...

The stage 0 from ZPI is a good safe place to start for someone who doesn't want to blow a ton of cash and wants to learn the basics and start slow with few problems and little tuning.

Either way... if you want real power, you'll have to settle for kissing the warranty on the engine components bye bye...

I agree with WDS.. Once you get boost you want more and more. So why waist $3500 on a SC just to trade it in and spend another $4k or more on a TC, because you want more hp.. Do it right the first time and then you can spend the other money on making it faster.. If you are a Noob to F/I, read anything and everything you can about it, to help you learn.

how much boost are you going to want in college? you are going to find out that a lot of other more important things ..... get the s/c and keep the warranty. then worry about a new car after your 4-5 years are up.

if i could do it all over again, i will go turbo instead just because prices are so low this days. u cant beat 4.1k for turbonetics, 2.6k for base greddy kit, and etc.

if money isnt an issue then just go with something u like. somthings gotta give and warranty is one of them. if u wanted a more powerful car with warranty out of the box then the tC isnt your car.

good luck

I see way to many kids coming on this site with no knowledge whatsoever on f/i. These same kids are the ones that are in college or working their butts off trying to make a living. It seems like most of these kids that want a turbo end up saving up just enough money to buy the turbo kit and then they go broke....then things start going wrong with the car and since they have no technical knowlege whatsoever, you start to see turbo tC's floating through the classified section cause they have no money to fix the problem. In your case bro, straight and to the point, either go supercharger and leave it alone(no pulleys, headers, intake etc) and be happy with the additional power or just keep your car n/a and get yourself through school.....just remember one thing though, Boost WILL get you LAID

Boost WILL get you LAID
reason enough to boost anything....i would boost my buddy's 87 topaz over that

still undecided.....because i KNOW if i get the s/c then i'm gonna put that pulley on it....then a header later on....then more andm ore and more and more....its an addiction...

but if i get a turbo, i'll do the same thing, probably just slower....

at least i have some time to decide...finances wont be sufficient till this winter(i have the money now, but being in college I prefer a nice, soft cushion)

decisions decisions.....anyone know of a way to fake the tamperproof cap on the s/c???[/list]

if finances are even a slight issue in initial purchase of a forced induction kit, then a turbo is not for you. Few people purchase a turbo for their car and never have to spend a dime more. Whether its gauges, the tune, couplers, welds, this that or the other thing.

Supercharger unless you're willing to walk to classes and get a buddy to drive you around when your car's on a lift.

in college i didnt want to drive anywhere. After going to a party ...anything that got me home w/o me driving was good enough. I only used my car twice a week and was sitting in the parking lot all the way in the back. There is no way in hell I would have wanted to get a new car for college to stay there but my truck failed a few years early.

Yes they can. Look at how Mitsu treats warranty claims on the Evo IX's.

If you're going to mess with things, at least have the ***** to pay for your mistakes.
