Default TRD Flash Question

Looking to install my supercharger soon once i find out what the deal is with my oil consumption.
Is is possible to drive the car stock with ECU flashed.
Or is it possible to install the supercharger and drive it to the dealer with the un-flashed ECU?
Would like to avoid paying for a tow.

I haven't installed mine yet. But I asked that question be4 and no you can't drive it u got to tow it. Or get a ecu that's already flashed. Thats what I did.

Contact TRD Sparks in Myrtle Beach. I remember they offered a mail-in reflash for the TRD kits. Not sure if they are still doing it or not.

Yea it does have to be flashed in the car with the supercharger already in but u will have to tow it. some ppl sell the ecu already flashed and all u got to do is just install same day as u install the s/c its alot easier and cheaper.

I did that once when i was turbo. But make sure you let the car re-learn to make proper fuel trims prior to driving it. Only will work with 440cc injectors or smaller. 550s will be too much of a trim and the stock ecu will not be able to keep up.

Drive really conservatively. You wont mess anything, if everything is installed properly. The worse that could happen is you will run rich. Otherwise id say its ok. Ive done way riskier things

Dont take my word for it though. I wouldnt recomend anything like that, i wouldnt recomend anything but doing it perfect. But to answer your question, yes, it can be done.

Installed my s/c a wile ago, I ran my stock ECU for 2 weeks and the car ran fine staying out of boost of course. Pretty sure the ECU would go into limp mode if it started reading pressure. I would suggest buying a re-flashed ECU here in the classified section and re link the transponder with the ECU as shown in link (https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=208369)

Hope this helps

no, you can blow the motor with the supercharger and stock ECU. It has been accomplished by somebody on this forum.

cost benefit analysis: savings of driving the car yourself VS paying for a reasonable tow VS paying for a reasonable tow and rebuilding or replacing engine...seems like a no brainer to me.

You can install your supercharger and pull out the ecu, take it to the dealer, reflash it and the back to your car. that the way that I done this, there is no need to be in the car. And never run the stock ecu with the supercharger installed, you can damage your engine............
