Default TRD Supercharger '05 TC Failure

My 2005 Scion TC has the TRD Supercharger which I had installed by a dealer in 2005. The supercharger has been making a "clicking" noise and needs to be diagnosed. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and not one dealership/performance shop is willing to open the SC up and look at it. The car is 4,000 miles out of warranty. From reading other's posts it sounds like the rod is going out and taking a bearing with it. The advice the dealerships are giving is to purchase a new supercharger. This sounds like telling me to purchase a new car because I have a flat tire. I was also told it would cost $2,260 to remove the supercharger to make it like it was when I originally purchased the car. I believe because it is a Toyota made part they should service the supercharger. In my opinion Toyota has dropped the ball and should take responsibility for parts they manufacture. I understand that the car is out of warranty. I have no issue with paying for a replacement rod/bearing + labor if the part was even available. If anyone has gone though this and has any advice or if you just have suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

want to take a road trip? I am going to Ptuning to get my SC removing really soon.
They are located in VA.
PM Mike from Ptuning to get price quote. i am sure it is much cheaper than dealer.

Gompka deals with the shaft's but he's sold out of them now IIRC. If you want to drive to GA we can take it off, I pulled mine. Its not terribly hard thing to do. If you pull your belt can you move the pulley on the supercharger in and out?

Your dealer is stupid. You can egt a new supercharger they are discontinued. I doubt they have replacement parts sitting around either cause toyota did drop the ball on this. I recommend finding somebody in your local forums to help with the getting the S/C off the car. Or get ahold of Gompka and see if he is making anymore shafts for the S/C. But like kikcaffiene said i think he is out.

I don't think the supercharger will make it much futher and I would not feel comfortable driving on the highway with this vehicle for a long distance. The dealers I have spoken with claim to have no experience with the TRD Superchargers. They are not even sure which parts need to be purchased in order to make it like it was before the supercharger was put on. It seems the parts are the most expensive portion of the cost and I'm not even sure where I could find a list of the parts.

I have promised Toyota that I would spread my story until they take responsibility for their broken part. If you are in the same boat as I am feel free to call 1-866-707-2466 (Scion Customer Support) and share your story. If you do happen to call feel free to mention my name.

yeah gompka is out of shafts for the moment, but he is taking names for people still wanting a shaft, more people that want one, more chance he will start another batch of shafts. don't worry Ill be in your shoes soon enough. Just need more people to help support gompka shafts.

I'm not really interested in purchasing a new potentially defective supercharger. I would like to either get mine fixed or removed. I have had a horrible experience with all of this and would rather not go through this again in another 60,000 miles. Any idea on how often Gompka makes a new batch of shafts?

I had the supercharger put on when the car had 3,000 miles. Currently there are 64,000 miles on the car. So approximately 61,000 miles on the SC.

W0W. That's a lot of miles. consider yourself lucky! I hope mine last that long! I would just have the thing rebuilt. New bearings. Well if you wanted to take it off, im willing to help. I'm out in Shreveport, LA. 2.5 hr drive. I installed my s/c myself a year ago and have all the tools to do so. All you would need is a aftermarket intake, a stock serptine belt, and a stock ecu.

I actually got a oem intake so scratch getting a aftermarket one. You can worry about the ecu after uninstalling the s/c. You can drive on the trd tune without the s/c, it will just run rich. I have done it before.

can you describe the sound better? is it at idle, under acceleration, if so how much? low partial or full throttle, at what rpms? are there any other symptoms regarding the cars performance that could help diagnose what is wrong with it? what videos or sound clips did you listen to?

Out of shafts for now, until more people can commit to taking orders. Not sure yet on how many orders I need, waiting to hear back from the machine shop. It will be 6 minimum, toyota didn't even fix mine when it was under warranty. And calling Kevin "the supervisor" at scion/toyota won't do you any good he was downright disrespectful to me and laughed in my face when I told him I was going to post this all over, look whos laughing now, they aren't making them anymore and I ended up having the fix lol. Wish I could have the shafts in stock for you guys, but I'm just a college kid and I don't have a few grand to put upfront again.

Its not hard to take off the s/c.

You need stock injectors, a stock ecu, stock airbox and plumbing, stock oilpan, stock drive belt, the thermostat can be left in.

Don't go to a dealership just go to a local shop, go to trdsparks.com and download the supercharger install instruction, give it to them with the parts and tell them to undo it. Shouldn't take more than a few hours.

When you swap out the ecu wouldnt you have to reprogram the ecu to the immobilizer in your key (so youd still have to go to the stealership)

no, you do the wire trick, you short out 2 pins on the obd port under your dash. Works like a charm. There is a DIY somewhere.

The noise is similar to a screw in a fan. It is noticeable at idle speed and even louder and at a faster rhythm at higher RPMs. I have not noticed any performance differences.

If I decide to go the route of removing the supercharger, how much can I expect to pay for the stock parts?
