Default Tunage and Boostage

So I recently joined Scion life.com, and I also just bought a brand spanking new T3/T4 T04E turbo and will get the rest of the essential parts to boost my car, but my problem is all this tuning deal with standalone, piggyback, and ECU stuff. I was reading the post titled "Official Turbo FAQ with Electrical Guide" and I learned alot of information regarding it all, BUT I'm still confused. I know you can go to a car shop that has a dyno and do it that way, but I dont think I want to do it that way. I want to be able to do it myself from my laptop and learn everything I need to know so I can tweak my car as I get new parts so I can increase the boost. A buddy of mind who knows a good deal but not enough about cars, is recommending the Greddy Emanage piggy back, but I read the stuff joe said about the piggy back and how the stock ECU will just go back to the stock settings unless I floor it. Im interested in the GReddy E-Manage Ultimate-Main Unit w/ Software (Universal) (Advanced Engine Control Unit Manager). Is this unit a standalone? I want to be able to tune my car to where I wont have any worries when I'm driving around, because my car is a daily driver.

ANY help ANYONE can give me would be great and much appreciated.

By the way, any help yall give me will help me become the FIRST Turbo'd TC in Cheyenne , Wyoming and Fort Collins, Colorado possibly.

deff not the first with turbo from colorado...thers a few on the boards as well as some boosted xb's...

e-ultimate from what i hear is a great unit... i personaly havnt had the pleasure but i have played with the AEM fic...the main thing to do is read as much as you can about the engine managment you are interested in...see if you can get the software for it so you can play with it and just get used to how its set up...

the fic you can download the software for free at the aem forum...so essentialy you can look and see if you like it...

however i dont think the greddy software is free to download...I could be wrong though...

Well my friend you can do street tune but a dyno tune is the best way to go. First before you go tweaking you need to fully understand F.A.T aka ( Fuel, air, timing) those are key areas you must know about before any changes to the factory settings are made. If you alter one area all the others will change accordingly. I would stay away from greddy there's nothing wrong with the products except the emanage blue i don't trust it. If something goes wrong with the ultimate there's no tech support since greddy japan is bankrupt and all there information is in japanese you are out of luck. The ultimate is a standalone but you still need a dyno tune for wide open and low cruise speed and weather conditions for the car to run properly. It's not as easy as you think to just hook up a monitor and laptop and check your parameters. If you are new to the whole engine managemnt thing start simple like crush said the AEM FIC is the best route for low to mild boost. Dyno tunig is the best way to ensure your car last long and runs right. Any other way and eventually your car will say screw you and fail.

haha thats good to know man! but Cheyenne is the biggest city in wyoming AND the street "dell range" is the busiest street in wyoming and it located in cheyenne. so I've seen ALOt of cars and TC's and none that are boosted. I only know one TC that is S/C.

But it WILL be done before Sept 24th. Ill make sure to finish Sept 23rd

Well when I said colorado, I said FORT COLLINS, colorado. I'm pretty sure there are boosted tcs in other parts of colorado.

I REALLY appreciate the willingness to help me out, but its gonna be a few months out before Ill need help. I'll keep ya in mind tho. I've already gotten an offer of help by another SL member for the tune. I know Ill need help putting it all together if I dont figure it out by myself when I hav all the parts.

GReddy is not out of business and they still do tech support. So, no you are not out of luck. The Ultimate is not a standalone. It is the closest to coming to a standalone, but it is not one.

I had the Emanage Blue for nearly 3 years, it works just fine. Very easy to tweak. The factory ECU will fight it from time to time, but it's not like you will be changing something every month. Like I said before it's easy to tweak it, so no worries.

Correction emanage ultimate is not a full standalone. I keep on confusing the ultimate with the hydra system sorry. Thank you rthysmoke for correcting my statement.
