If you have a wideband and EGT its helps tuning a lot. If your afr is where it should be you can use the egt to judge your timing to an extent.

Volumetric efficiency plays a key role in EGT and thus affects timing and other things.
which cylinder would be the hottest? its gonna be cylinder 1 usually right? Im gonna put an EGT bung closer to the block and see how much difference it makes..

While on boost though I think the difference would minimal regardless of bung placement on the manifold since exhaust velocity and volume will be more but we will have to see as soon as compare the numbers

you should be fine with defi, aem or autometer. Prosport is ok but my recent purchase with them is a bit disappointing.

Ok, I've got an autometer boost gauge also so i'll just stick with them.

Defi is the only one I trust.

Difference may be minimal but for accuracy sake always keep it near the head, the manifold soaks in the heat from the exhaust. Just like an IAT sensor it should be closest to the cylinder port entry.

I have never tried tuning anythin with EFI using EGT. Done quite a bit on mechanical alcohol systems and some on carbureted gas stuff. On the carbureted stuff I have found that usually the owner has richened the thing so much it fouls plugs and runs at 10.0 AFR while chasing EGT's. So I would recomend also using a wide band O2.

IMO, if you are boosting and tuning without a wideband, you are asking for it...

The installation instructions for the EGT shows how close to put it, if I remember right its 1" - 1 1/2" from head. It will not matter which cylinder if the engine is running correctly all of them should have identical EGT's or be very close.

To an extent, factors such as throttle body placement, intake runner flow, heat soak, cooling jacket design all play roles on how hot a cylinder runs.

I spoke to a guy who has his EGT probe right on the downpipe close to the turbo exit and his EGTs are like 500-700 on normal driving city/highway its like 200-300F less than mine which is before the turbo inlet. I would assume my actual egts on the cylinder would be roughly 200-400F more than what my gauge reads.. but ill wait till i get a bung closer to the head to actually measure it

just placing the probe closer to the head makes a huge difference in temps.
