turbo w/o tuning
im looking to boost my car but nothing to crazy, i want to keep it at 8psi on a t3/t4 turbo the most, i was told that i really didnt have to tune the car or change the ecu and that if i did want to i can re-flash the ecu through trd.... anyone got any facts for me?

you have been misinformed.

The TRD reflash is solely for the TRD supercharger application from my current understanding. You don't have to change your ECU; you would just need to use a piggy back engine management system to have things running well. I would research on the parameters of the Turbo Toyotas Simple kit that was developed a while ago; it didn't use engine management, but if I can recall correctly, it didn't run 8psi or a t3/t4 turbo.
In my opinion, if you have all the components and you have all the resources then running an engine management system and tuning it should be performed.
Why would you not want to use an engine management system or get it tuned I guess is my question?

think about it this way....
you are forcing air into your engine with the turbo, hoping to make it faster.. but whats really going on in your engine? how come its running the way it is when its stock?
Air is going in your engine through your stock intake, which is already consistent so your stock computer tells the injectors to feed how much fuel into your engine along with the amount of air going into it.
BUT!!!!! now that you have a turbo in there forcing however many extra pounds of air into that engine, but your computer is still feeding the same amount of fuel. What will happen? air/fuel mixture will be messed up causing your car to run extremely lean. When a car runs lean, that is where things start to explode.
Do it right the first time so you won't have to do it again. RESEARCH and do lots of that. It is good for you and your car.

I boosted my car for about 4 -5 mons without a tune but i was only runnin 4 psi. My afr's were around 12.5. Im not justifying that it can be done, but its not that it can't be done. I just wouldnt do it for a long period of time. Best bet is to get a 4 psi spring and dont boost over that until u get injectors and some sort of piggyback. U can get all this for around 750.00. $750.00 now, or about $2k later for a motor, the choice is urs my fellow tcer.

the fic costs roughly the same and has more features including o2 sensor spoofing, plust lots of info on the fic with a ton of success using that managment on the tc.
Fic has onboard map sensor, 6 maps (fuel, ign, maf, o2, analog a and b), internal logging or datalogging via laptop, aux gauges (rpm, boost, wideband (can be configured for other things).

Youll have a more efficient and thourogh tune. Ur limited w what u can do w an safc. I havent used one in years but im not sure if u can even adjust ur fuel trims. Anyone on here will tell u to go w a aem fic or emanage ultimate.

ok i really appreciate everyones opinions, ive found the aem fic for about $560, but since you guys really seem to say its much better i might have to spend the couple hundred extra and get that instead of the safc2 which i was getting for $150
