Default Type of oil for Supercharged tC? I am sick of the rattles!!!

Well I have been running the oil they put in the car for the last 3 oil changes. I am going to change to try and get rid of the noise of the charger. It rattles and clinks way to much.

So what type of oil is best for this oil change?
Brand? Weight? and Synthetic or normal?

Need to know by saturday.

Thanks all

mobil 1 5w30. been using it since oil change #3 even before i was S/C. when i got the charger, i used the oil that toyota put in for about 1000 miles and then switched back to synthetic. its been about 3 thousand miles since, and the oil level is the same as it was the day i put it in. Ive never noticed SC rattles, but mobil 1 is the best oil in my opinion.

Ok so mobile 1 Synthetic. That was what I thought.
Is 5W30 the best weight for the charger?

Thanks for the help.

I prefer synthetic oil, whether for sc or na. I've used Castrol Syntec since it came out, and it's always served me well. I'm sure Mobil 1 is decent too, as I once used their synthetic manual tranny oil. I feel proper viscosity is dependent upon where you live, time of year, and how hard you drive the car. 5w is great for winter and maximizing gas milage, but if I had sc, lived in a warm climate year-round and drove the car hard, I'd likely go with 10-40 over 5-30.

but still - there are so many people saying all brands of oil - some are saying 10w-30/40, 5w-30/40

there are many people that know more then i do about oil and having so many people saying 4 diff types of oil #'s - that doesnt help much.

I agree. Everyone is saying something different. But since KYTC has the supercharger, and is running 5w30 and 5w30 is thicker, its probably the best bet for me. I need something thicker to lube up the supercharger. Its way to loud as far as the clicking and clacking.
Hope I dont have a problem starting.
A thicker weight oil couldnt be a helper to the supercharger seals failing, can it?

Ok, I use 10w-30

The first number 10w, or 5w is the weight of the oil on a cold start. The second number -30 or -40 is the weight of the oil at normal operating temperature.

I find that using the 10w-30 has quited things down quite a bit. If you use 10w-40 that is fine too since the cold start weight is the same, just the normal operating temperature weight is a bit higher.

5w-30 is the stock oil.

im not sure how bad the winters are in hampton, so a 10w should be fine....its up to you on the 30-40....

if it gets colder there then here, go with a 5W...(it gets close to the teens sometimes here, so i lay on the edge of safety of 5w)

i tihnk thats the way it goes...thinner for colder, thicked for warmer(climates)

somone PLEASE correct me if i am wrong...
