What gauges do you need for a Turbo Kit?
the norm is usually boost, oil psi, and a/f ratio. some ppl get an e.g.t. gauge. i would def. recommend aem truboost because it has a built-in boost controller and the aem wideband uego a/f gauge.

Thanks guy, thats what I thought. Just making sure. Im kind of a noob at this stuff. Thanks. Got 3 grand so far and im only like a grand away from getting my kit so im trying to make sure I get stuff right. Thanks again
what is the advantage of having a boost controller?
I read somewhere that by having a controller it allows keeping the wastegate closed longer untill reaching the boost, therefore you reach your maximum boost level earlier rather than having the waste gate patrially open on its way up to the max.
This would widen your powerband on the low end correct?

I would have to say without a doubt the boost, wideband, and oil psi. I know some people don't think the oil psi is important but you'll be glad you have it when the psi drop and you can turn the motor off before any real damage happens.

Wouldn't Wide band and EGT be concidered a monitoring system for the same thing?
I mean i could be wrong but from what i understand about EGT's is every car has it's own ideal operating temp. and, you have no way of figuring it out the exact temp. i mean you can see what works. but with a wideband it's more accurate correct?

A wideband monitors AFR. An EGT monitors the same thing in a different way. When your car runs lean it causes your EGT's to increase. when your car runs rich it causes your EGT's to de crease. When your AFR gauge says 16.1 you say oh crap and turn it off. when your car says 8.1 you say oh crap cylinder wash.

It does keep the wastegate closed yes. But it ups your boost. say you run 8psi with a boost controller it controlls your boost so you can run any psi you want with the exact same set up.
I have the F/IC and the AEM tru boost boost controller.
There is just one map for both tunes.
When you get tuned, you set your controller to, say 9psi and tune for it. Well, your tuning from 0psi all the way up to 9psi, so your pretty much already tuned for 7psi.
but then you put the controller down to 7psi and make sure you still liek how everything is running there.
Then when your driving around town, you have it set to 7....and when that mustang pulls up at the light, you push the button twice and you smoke him at 9psi!
But yes, it also keep the WG closed up until you reach your proper psi so you get a smoother transition, where if your running solely off the WG spring, it may start to open sooner and you wont' get the full potential throught the entire power band.
