Default ZPI Supercharger Pulley

I read a post on the ZPI Supercharger Pulley and had a question, because there was no concrete answer on it... is the pulley bad for the engine, since it is a solid piece as opposed to have the vibration absorbing materials integrated (like the stock pulley)? i like the fact that it will give ~20+ whp, but i dont want a broken engine in the long run... has anyone had any issues running the pulley? thanks in advance.

Your not going to get a solid answer really. The pulley just came out and people have only had them for maybe weeks tops now. But it IS going to affect your engine in the long run since it is not from factory, changing the pulleys youll be putting more power but also more stress to the supercharger. But with just a pulley i dont think you have much to worry about.

The supercharger pulley shouldn't cause any trouble like that.

It's the crank pulley that is shrouded in controversy but that's because it's connected to the crank aka the source of all the vibrations and thus the source of dying 2JZ engines that were running solid pulleys.

The supercharger woulnd't be the source of any of that kind of trouble as it's not the piece that's turning other accessories.

OEM SC pulley is just as solid as the ZPI pulley. The only thing you are changing in this case is boost, so all the problems will be from higher boost, not solid pulley...

I've had the ZPI pulley for about 2 months now.. No problems, no squeeks, vibrations, noises, just boost

well... ading more boost will mean adding more heat, which will lead to faster break down on the engine.

but as long as you arent beating on the engine and redlining at every stop light, then you should be fine. It shouldnt significantly shorten the life of the engine, or any of the engine components. If anything, just make sure your fuel system is working properly. WIth 9-10lbs of boost, you are running close to your limit on the supercharger injectors.

Sorry to thread jack, but is there a thread that discusses the results of the increased boost on the fuel curve?

I want to put the pulley on next week, but I want to make sure it is safe.

I had my ZPI supercharger pulley installed yesterday. There is a very noticeable difference in performance. I am very impressed. There is no difference, however, in driveability or idle or anything negative. There may be a slightly louder whine from the s/c, or it could just be in my head. I ordered late Wednesday night, and the pulley arrived Monday morning. I am completely satisfied with this upgrade.

The whine is a little louder to me as well. I just had the Boost pulley and the New Crank pulley installed. OH MAN! I love it!

Yep, more whine because the supercharger is spinning faster.. Thanks for the glowing review!

The NST pulley puts the boost level at 9.5 to 10psi. Get the NST SC pulley and then wait for their crank pulley to come out as well. Then you will be in the 12psi range

Is 12psi safe unintercooled? It gets decently hot here in the summer, dont want to be driving around boosting and BOOM.

At 12psi I would definitely be running an intercooler, especially if you'll be running it in a hot climate.
