So today my friend and I built a new sub enclosure into the floor of my trunk to get rid of the big bulky box I used to have. We also built it to the correct specs of the sub which made an amazing differance. Turned out pretty good.... Took about 5 - 6 hours between going to Home Depot, breaks, and clean up.
Materials Used:
4' x 8' sheet of 1/2" MDF
Wood Caulk
Long Sheet Of Midnight Black Velvet (forgot dimensions)
Fiberglass Padding
Screws
Jig Saw
Dremel
Subwoofer: 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 Sub
Amp: HART Professional 800Watt
Some Pics....

Showing the split section where the amp is hidden. (I hafta think of a better mounting location for it)

Showing the box for the sub mounted to the false floor. (The white stuff is fiberglass padding... for sound deadening)

Installed a white neon tube for some show quality. (connected to the rear hatch light switch)

The amplifier, capacitor, and all the wires are hidden nicely underneath it all. It was hard to find a good location for them with the Ingalls Rear Strut Tower Brace but we did it.
What do you think?

two questons, one - how much did everything cost, and two - how deep down does the sub go, is your tire still there, can you still open somthing to get your tire, im thinking of doing like that too, your anwsers would be greatly appreciated

MDF board was $23
Wood caulking was about $5
Black Velvet was FREE - My friend had some extra from when we made sound baffles for his recording studio. I was going to carpet it but since the velvet was free and easily available, I used it. You can buy some sub box carpet material from Crutchfield or PepBoys.
Second Question:
The box for the acutal sub depth is about 7 inches. We had to dremel off the little stub for where the spare tire thing screws into. The spare tire will not fit if you do this type of enclosure. There is simply not enough room. I'm fine with this because I have road side assitance if anything should happen. Also, if you notice in the pictures there are two pieces to this. We had to make a cut into the false floor we made so that I could access my amp (and so that we could fit the big sheet of wood into the trunk). We used the same crease like the stock to make the two sections... the one towards the passanger side, thats where my amp is located.
Here's a pic.... hope it makes sense
I like it, I want to do something like that I think as well... I dont know if I could retain my spare tire doing it though.. I plan to get a Alpine 10" Type-X which has a mounting depth of 8". Very nice install though, any chance of a pic of the box underneath? I never thought of doing it with MDF instead of fiberglass.

I'll try to get a pic of the box underneath it all today.

I agree... i dont plan on inversing it ever. The whole point was to make it dumped nice and clean into the floor bed.
*still hafta take pics of the box... didn't have time to today*
