i bought a tC back in july 2004. for christmas i recently got myself a new ipod. i saw that in the 06 models of the tC, the stereo comes with a front jack for mp3 players as well as an option to hook it up to your ipod.. is it possible for me to go to toyota and tell them i want the new stereo ? i wonder how much that would be

 

i didn't realize that there was a "front jack" for anything, although it does indeed play mp3s and wmas.

as for the ipod option, the 06 scions come pre-wired with a special harness to allow that capability, but those of us with pre-06 vehicles haven't been able to get the ipod functioning to work because we don't have that necessary harness that the 06 does.

if you want to buy an 06 single disc HU, it will cost around $430 +/- ... but again, so far we haven't found a way to make use of the ipod capability unless you can find an 06 willing to give up their harness.

 

The stereo is crazy expensive, especially if you want the 6 disc indash. Go aftermarket, the quality will be better and you'll get more options.

 

there is no front jack for the mp3 player - it is located inside of your center armrest, next to the power adapter. so you would need to purchase the plugs for the AUX port also.

And from what i have found - the 05 and 06 are wired to work in either car, but the 06 has the ****, and wont actually fit in the 05 tC. the door wont close.

I havent installed it because I still have to get the wire thats gonna connect from this unit to my sirius sat. radio. ....but i figured this might help any 05 radio people. I think they make an IPOD thing like this also but havent looked into it..... im almost sure they do.

I dont know about the ipod 06 one, but I just sold the 06 steering control HU and its been a week and that guy hasn't paid me for the ebay auction yet,.......its been several days....

The issue isn't whether it works in whatever car ...

If you read the original post, he is asking about the 06 IPOD hu and whether it will or will not work in an 04, and how much it would cost him.

Not, the 06 IPOD hu will not work in an 04 unless you have a harness from a donor 06. The 06 IPOD hu will cost around $450 plus or minus depending on where you buy it. But again, it won't work in an 04 unless you have an 06 harness. We are ONLY talking about the IPOD headunit here.
