Default 2008 Nav HeadUnit - 2006 Scion tc

OK First off - I know I can do an aftermarket cheaper. So please don't tell me this...

Now I have a 2006 Scion tc with the premium stereo (subwoofer, amp, etc) - I have the Release 2 package (the bright blue car).

Even though I know the 2008 nav radio is very expensive ($2000) can I buy one and install it *easily* in the 2006? I imagine I need a GPS antenna - what else is necessary? Will the ipod connection in the center armrest still work?

Thanks!
David

I thought they came with everything to install.
GPS antenna, and the rest should be a piece of cake to install.

Thanks for the reply Scott8. So if I buy it (from TRDSparks for example) it should be relatively straight forward? Is the harness plug-and-play except for the GPS antenna?

seriously though.. why pay 3x the cost for OEM Nav.. when aftermarket will give you more features and better performance? bluetooth, gps, ipod integration, reverse camera, dvd/divx playback.. etc..

I understand that diesel. But it doesn't help with the initial question about the 2008 Scion system...

So it doesn't work with the radio door, huh? I am leaning after-market but I also like the idea of keeping it "scion"...

Not necessarily. Somebody on here installed it and still retained the radio cover. (I can't remember who it was.)
You will most likely need to drill holes into the stock brackets.

You have to drill holes on the stock brackets were the dimples are so that the radio will sit back further to allow for the door to close

So there you have it. Now it's just a question of wiring everything up - if the harness is the same.

If it's mostly plug and play this is a great option seeing as there are a few on ebay and would be less than the $2000 regular price.

Default Change of subject...sorry

Hey there...sorry to change the subject (slightly). Here's the deal...I currently have a '06 tC, in said tC I have an Eclipse AVN5435. I'm thinking about trading it in and purchasing a '08 tC. Question is: Will the AVN5435 install the same in the '08? Does it use the same wiring harness? Will it allow the use if the steering wheel controls?
