Default advice/info from audio & electrical experts(update w/pix

Hi all, i've recently purchased the Pioneer FH8000BT. now i'm trying to decide if i should tackle this on my own, or just have someone do it.

to give a little background, i'm a COMPLETE noob when it comes to doing stereo stuff (at least on the car, i wired my home theater system, but something tells me thats nothing like doing this). i've never done it before, but just browsing some of the other posts here, and the installation instructions, it looks pretty straightforward. now i did my own HIDs (no rocket science here), and i'm pretty good at wiring the house for phone and tvs and home theater as stated above (no rocket science here as well).

so i guess i'm just wondering what to expect, things like, if i'll need adapters of any sort to connect the factory wires to the new head unit, difficulty of removing the original head unit and replacing with new one, and anything else that one may not think of immediately.

i have an '05, OEM unit (not upgraded), and no sub.

thanks in advance.

You should not have a problem. If you purchased it from like Crutchfield then it came with all you need to hook up and instructions, if not then purchase the install kit from them and it pretty simple. Good luck!

get a wiring harness to attach to your stereo's harness..

that way you can plug it right into the car's harness.. most wiring harnesses share the same color scheme as the wires from your new deck.. so at that point, it's just matching colors and wiring them together.

difficulty of removing your old unit and putting in your new one is a simple and straightforward install.

does involve cutting or crossing or whatever of wires?

thanks so far for the replies.

No. If you go to www.crutchfield.com and get there wiring harness for your application its simple. All you have to do is wire up there harness and plug into your existing wiring. They always come with FREE instructions from Crutchfield. Hope that helps.

thanks for the help john! got it installed this past weekend. went without a hitch (at least nothing has gone wrong yet). i was amazed at how easy it was to remove the center console/waterfall. guess the hardest part was splicing the wires together. otherwise, this was pretty simple....hopefully, i can get some pix up soon.

if you get the wiring harness it makes it 50x easier

you plug that harness into the factory so you dont have to cut any factory wires

its color coded and VERY easy to do.

this is probably the easiet car to put a radio in

I can do it in less than 20 min

Here's some pix! (sorry for the quality, used the iphone!)

here's a shot of it at night (looks ok with the diff colors, is an LED swap in order...??)

a daytime shot, you see 3 wires, ipod, mic, and aux cables...

a closer shot of the unit

and a closer shot of the wires, i had it come down thru the cubby hole.

Enjoy!

yea, its the Pioneer FHP8000BT
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4225776

as ^^ said, the specs are really nice. bluetooth phone and audio capable, aux in, usb in, 7 channel EQ and many other customizable settings. wasn't in the market for a dvd/navi so this fit the bill pretty well being double din and all.

I am down to a choice of two Pioneers, the DEH-8000BT and DEH-7000BT(single din)
Both have pretty much same specs, other than the 8000 has a 7 band equalizer and of course the 3 line display.

I can't find any info on if the three lines actually give you any useful information more than the one line when scrolling through menu's , USB memory device, or an IPOD song list.

Does all three lines get used in a menu or iPod list. Or does 2 of the lines stay with static info (say source & date/time) and only 1 line scroll?

I'm hoping it uses all three lines when listing, as it would give a lot more context navigating lists than a single line.

How does the three line display work in this unit?

honestly, my mic is currently sitting in my cubby hole. haha...i've yet to come up with a place for it. i think common locations are on the steering column or on the rearview.
