Default aftermarket headunit fitment???

I decided to blow my tax refund money on an Alpine CDA-9857 headunit and I was wondering if I could still have the little trap/sliding door thingy left on that cover the stock stereo????

I've seen tc's with aftermarket headunits that still have that on, and seen them without it. So which one is it?? I'm confused

It's headunit-specific, and relates to the flushness of the new unit. If there's a rather obtrusive control **** (like on my Pioneer unit), then it won't close. If it doesn't stick out too far, you're good.
