Default Amp Is Here and Installed!

Continuation of this thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=179794

But as a reminder, I have a Polk db104DVC mounted in a Dr Isotope box and it will be powered by an Alpine MRP-M450 wired at 2 ohms, putting out 400W RMS.

Amp was FINALLY ordered on Thursday and will be here tomorrow. I don't really have a wiring kit yet... but I think for the time being I'll just use the OEM sub wiring since all of the necessary connections are there. I'll just keep the power down a little bit.

Biggest thing is that I'm going to mounting the amp in the floor under the sub - in that little black storage area. Of course... it might get a bit warm down there, so I'm going to need some circulation.

TA DA!

They're two 80mm computer case fans. Just cut out the holes with a steak knife and they're flush with the bottom of the tray and cut to stay pretty secure without any need for screws or glue or anything. I cut the area a little small at first and just trimmed it to get a secure fit.

Now I just have to figure out how to wire them and have them switched and power on with the amp. I was thinking the remote wire, since that's the "on" signal, but I don't know if it's 12v or not. Or I might just go with the power wire from the OEM sub wiring. We'll see though.

you'll need to use a relay.

the remote doesn't carry enough power to power those amps so just get a relay and use the remote as a trigger.

yea use a 4 pole relay which u can buy at radio shack. i did this in a different car before and it worked very well. i can't remember how to wire it but search some car audio forums and you should find something. don't try to run fans directly off of the remote wire though.... very bad idea.

A 4 pole relay huh? So I'm far from any electrician type of person... so I'm guessing that it's just an electronic switch that I wire a power wire to and from but also connect the remote wire to and let the remote wire act as the switch to send the power through the "from" wire? But if it's a "4 pole" does that mean there will be 4 wires and if so, what's the fourth?

And will the Radio Shack people know what I'm looking for if I tell them I need a "4 pole relay"?

BTW... UPS says "out for delivery" ... yay!

I also carved a space out of that floor tray about the size of the amp so hopefully it'll sit in there kind of snug and not move around. Though I'll have to see how the wiring will work before I do anything more. I'd like to keep the wiring kind of stealth so there might be some holes going through the bottom of that tray.

You're going to have to explain it to me like I'm 5...

So I'm assuming that those will be each of the 4 wires for this relay... but what are the pin numbers for? Are those out of some specific harness that I'll need to tap into? I'm not looking for anything extravagent here... just something simple to get these fans turning.

Thanks for the help guys.

when you get your relay it will have 5 pins, (1 pin you dont use here) all 5 will be labeled with these random numbers...

Ah, that makes a little more sense... or doesn't... haha. Random labeling FTL.

So I have it all installed... and this poor thing is starved for power. Like I mentioned, I used the OEM sub wiring for the time being. I have to order a proper amp wiring kit to run a good power and ground. Then I'll be set. The gain and EQ are both are the minimum. Also didn't wire the fans yet. Going to pick up one of the relays first.

I'll have a couple pics in a min. But one thing is for sure... that box isn't going anywhere! Haha... that thing is solid and heavy and doesn't wobble for nothing!

hm.. i have a mono amp hooked up to my subs and it actually wont turn on anymore.. i checked the voltage of each wire and it seems like theres power going to it but it won't turn on, theirs no power going through the remote wire though so do you guys think that i should change the cable? blew a fuse?

If there's nothing going through the remote wire, my assumption would be that's why it's not turning on. It's not getting any signal to turn itself on. I could be wrong though.

Anyway.. here are a couple pics. Not as clean as I'd like it yet (and I had to cut out that whole corner to get it to fit in there - good thing it's all covered). I'll work on cable management a little more when I properly wire it...

So ya...

So far I'm pleased with the better sound. Even at min settings it's ridiculously better than the OEM sub. And the tuning part of it is going to be fun. I played a bit today to try and get it to a good point without the amp cutting out from lack of power... and it's hard.

If anyone has a crossover setting suggestion for me, I'd appreciate it. I listen to a bit of hip hop and a lot of rock/metal, if that helps.

if you are going to wait for proper wire to install the relay, get it online also... you can find them for $1-$2 shipped online but youre going to pay $5-$10 in a store to get one...

Thanks. Just ordered a Monster cable kit from eBay (good enough for me).

I'm guessing something like this will work for the relay? Seems to be one of the more common things there, so I assume that's what I'm looking for?

ACK, that is exactly what you want... fredy either search, theres a walk through to take apart the whole interior, or go out to your console and pull...
