Default Amp and sub question

So I'm getting ready to order the elemental designs sq10 and an amp but I'm not sure if I should get a 2 channel or a 4 channel? I don't have (nor do I plan on) getting aftermarket speakers and I have a pioneer avh4200dvd head unit.

Will the 2 channel be enough? The difference in price from the nine.2 and nine.4 is only $10 but the nine.2 is more watts than the nine.4??

Confused

get the two channel. most 2 channel amps can be bridged so you can send all of the amps power through one channel to power one sub. since you are getting only one sub a two channel is best.

no need for a four channel unless your using all the channels

2 x 100W @ 4 Ohm, 2 x 200W @ 2 Ohm, 1 x 400w @ 2 Ohm is more than enough for one sub.

you should pick up their NINe.2 it will have plenty of power for that sq10. Just to let you know they said they would be out of stock until mid june

Sub amps should be 1 channel (mono). You can bridge a 2 channel to be 1 channel but its retarded. Most full range amps are class ab (inefficient) and only stable to 4 ohms when bridged. The nine.2 is no exception. The signal usually needs to be split with y-cables when bridging (not good). The SQ10 is rated at 250wrms. The nine.2 puts out 400w at 12.5v. Not a good match.

eD gear is another story. But then again some people are fine with mcdonalds.

yea get a mono if your using just the sq10 sub from Elemental Designs. i opted for an Alpine MRP 450 and a pioneer shallow mount in the ED stealth sub box.

i was about to start a new thread asking the same question! so a mono amp is the best route if power is going only to the sub? this will be on my wishlist....

i use a mono amp wired in series to five 10" woofers.

depending on your application, mono amps can be wired to lots of woofers, without any drop in power
