Default Anyone have issues w/your radio reception w/ Aftermarket HU?

I just installed my sony xplod cdx M850MP and the radio reception totally sucks. I had this HU in my old toyota and it was perfect.. I pushed the radio jack the whole way in to make sure it was a good connection but still it sucks. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not an expert and I don't do my own installs, but what I've been told is that the antennas that come with the cars are cut to match up with the stock radio for best reception. I had a problem in my Camry with an Alpine deck that the installer said was best fixed by purchasing a new antenna since the factory antenna was in the rear window. They played with it a little and sounded a little better but not better than the reception I got with the factory radio.

I get great reception with an aftermarket deck and a shorter antenna.

I didn't have very good reception in my eclipse.. I went to autozone and purchased a signal enhancer (you install it in between the HU & the antenna wire), that cleared up the problem and it was only about $12.

Think I will have to try the signal enhancer out, I dont really use the radio all that much, just thought it was weird and sometimes ya need a break from the cd's. Anyone else out there that has seen a drop (significant or minimal) in thier reception?

I put in a Pioneer deck in my car, and I was experiencing the same issues. My FM was static and AM was very very bad. Later I found out that the amp/accessory turn on lead (the blue wire) was also the "powered antenna" lead. After I hooked up that wire from the receiver to the car, the reception improved 100%. (I also have my amp turn on spliced into this same wire).

I don't know if you have the same problem but I hope this helps.

I have the Alpine IVA-W200 and the FM reception sucks. It makes a static noise when the the beat hits and on the vocals. I am trying the S2000 antenna. If that doesn't work, I'll try the enhancer mentioned above. I am in the Phoenix area by the way.

Yes, this is exactly right. I had the same issue (no AM reception) after I installed my Alpine HU 2 weeks ago, but I put a call into Crutchfield and they explained that I have to connect the blue wire to the Power Antenna lead. Everything works fine now.
