Default Anyone Tried....

Was thinking about getting the Eclipse Nav/Dvd Screen and I would imgaine without some wiring up you would lose the steering controls..

Has anyone re-wired the steering wheel controls to say.. Open/Close the Sun Roof or any other options?

actually ... and someone else may want to chime in on this ... I beleive eclipse units are one of the units that adapt to steering wheel controls rather easily?

.. but to answer the question, I've never heard of that one.

eclipse makes units specifici for toyota/scion. so it should just slide in just fine, without anything extra, and thus keeping the steering wheel remotes. but again, might wanna double check. :D but my answer would be yes it would work just fine.

If you get the AVN30D it should be a direct fit into the stock steering wheel controls. I didn't install mine so I don't know for sure about that. If you go with the Pioneer line then you can get a PAC controller that's supposed to work well enough but with a slight delay.

but modifying the switch to control something else woul dbe different, but would it be functional? Maybe have it as a Trunk release? That'd be rather useful.

Yeah thats what I was thinking .. You have several buttons there so techincally you could wire them up for just about anything..

Leds / Interior Lights / Trunk .. just about anything

The AVN5435 is the same thing as the AVN30D. The AVN30D is the Toyota specific name so that's the one I would recommend going for. Unfortunately, it'll be difficult getting it from somewhere other than a Toyota dealership.
