Default Automatic Door Locks

Would anyone know if its possible to modify the tC to automatically lock the doors when the ignition is turned to start or when the transmission is placed in 'Drive'? A friend's Celica GTS doors lock when the ignition is on and the engine is running. Its a manual 5 speed.

Is there any reason you'd actually WANT to do that? I hate cars that do that.

I don't like the idea. What if you were ever in an accident and you had to be removed from the car? If the doors were locked, it would take that much longer to cut you out using the jaws of life.

Not for nothing, but if the firemen need to use the jaws of life, its not going to matter if the doors are locked or not.

My point was that it would just be harder to get to the patient if the car was locked. That's why I don't drive with locked doors because if something like that would happen, god forbid, I would surely want the firefighters to get to me as quickly as possible (without the deterrant of locked doors.) No need for the I wasn't looking for an argument.

Break window -> unlock door...if the window survived the hypothetical wreck.

It really wouldn't add any time at all, shaving your door handles would be much worse.

As for modding the stock tC to do it, install an alarm that does it. I can't imagine it being an easy DIY thing to just randomly go grab parts at Radio Shack.

I was simply mentioning a passing thought that I had, so everyone can stop getting so damn worked up over it. As I already said, I wasn't trying to start a debate, I was only stating a personal preference.
