Default Avic-D1/XM/PS2/PAC SWI PS Installed with pics - Updated

Okay guys - I'm fixing up my Guide here. PAC SWI-PS should be done this saturday.
D1/PS2 working great.

D1 guide i believe is complete. It should be failry easy to follow as long as you have some experience with car stereos.

(I am not responsible for YOUR install. This is what I did.)

What to buy:
D1/D2
1. Avic-D1/D2
2. Pac SWI-PS
3. 1 or 2 packs Crimp on butt connectors (extras always good)
4. 1 Terminal Kit (Small kit okay if only installing D1) - Mostly want the circle terminal ends for ground wires.
5. Extra Wire 18 gauge
6. Toyota Wiring Harness (1987 to Present)
7. Extra/Old Pioneer wire harness (1 pin needed for D1 harness)

Recommenede if doing PS2 or XM
1. 2 Packs Wire Taps (Not really needed if only installing D1)

PS2
1. PS2 Slim
2. Inline 10Amp Fuse
3. PS2 DC Adaptor

XM with NavTraffic
1. GEX-P10XMT

Tools Used
1. Phillips Screw Driver
2. Micro Screw Driver Set
3. Drill with bit anywhere from 3/16" to 3/8"
4. Rachet with 10mm and 12mm sockets.
5. Wire crimpter/cutters
6. Pliers for wire taps.

Estimated Time: 4-5 hours

D1 Install
1. Connect the Pioneer harness to the Generic Toyota Harness
1a. Use the Butt Connectors for these connections.
1b. Take a pin out from an older pioneer harness (pull a wire with pliers)
1c. Insert the wire from 1b into the extra space on the Pioneer harness (this will allow the bypass)
1d. Be sure to hook up the BLUE Power Antenna wire. This is for AM radio.

2. Follow the DIY to pull apart the console (Very Easy. 6th - 10th Pic)

3. If you have 5 Spd, once the console is removed, put the shift **** back on so you dont scratch screen against the metal shifter.

4. Make sure you have no CDs in the radio.
4a. Pull out the stock radio by removing the 2 screws and 2 bolts.
4b. Remove the 4 screws on each side for the stock radio mounting brackets.
4c. Drilled 4 holes into the stock mounting brackets where the indents are to line up the unit. 3/16" to 3/8" drill bit are good.

5. Remove ALL of the the stock mounting brackets from the D1.

6. Screw on the Mounting Brakcets and use 2 screws on each side. (You will be able to push the unit back about 1/2" so the radio door shuts). I used both far left screw holes.

7. Find the Speed Sensor Wire is Pin 14 (Orange on top. Note there are two orangle cables) on the cable bundle that connects to the center panel (panel with heat/time)(1th Pic Down for wire bundle)
7a. Connect the Speed sensor wire from the D1 to pin 14.

8. Grounded the parking brake wire and connected the extra ground wire plugged into the D1 harness to a ground connection. (This unlocks everything)
(Followed Directions From Here)

9. Hook up all the connections (ground/power).
9a. Connect the antenna.
9b. Connect the 2 harness.

10. Turn on the car and make sure everything is working. You should get one warning screen (NOT the one about a bad brake connection)
10a. Check AM/FM
10b. Check that Navigation is working.

11. Reassemble the car.

Notes: Didnt hook up the reverse sensor (have no camera and havent had any issues by not connecting)

XM Install

Pac Swi-PS Install
1. We are version 8.
2. We are following install Note 4 on the printout.
3. We only need the ground, power, and white wire.
4. We need the 150 ohm resistor.
5. Find the Steering Wheel Control Harness (It is not in use once you put in the D1. 20 Pins)
6. Pin 6 goes to a ground connection.
7. Pin 7 on harness gets connected to the white wire.
8. Pin 8 on harness gets a wire with resistor connected to pin 7.

This is hard to explain.
I drew this in photoshop if it helps:

Between 7 and 8 is the resistor.
Wire tap on pin 6 and ground it.

9. Ground the black from the Pac Swi.
10. Connect the Power from the Pac Swi.
11. Connect the cable jack into the back of the D1.

12. Program the controls.
12a. Press and hold the Program button on the Pac Swi and turn the ignition to on. (LED will light)
12b. Release program button. (LED will turn off clearing memory)
12c. Press and release the Program Button 8 times. (After 3 seconds the LED will flash 8 times) Turn the ignition to off.
12d. Turn the ignition to on (The led will light 8 times)
12e. Press and hold the Program Button. (LED will light) Release the button.

Now here comes the trick. Dont let more then 7 seconds pass without hitting a button. You must program these buttons in order.

Volume Up
Volumes Down
Mute
Track Up/Seek Up
Track Down/Seek Down
Source
Preset Up/Disk Up
Preset Down/Disk Down
Band

I used the following: Volume Up, Volume Down, Source, Preset Up, Preset Down. This is how you would do that.

12f. Press and hold the Volume up on the Steering Wheel. (The LED will turn off) Release the button. (The LED will turn back on)
12g. Press and hold the volume down on the steering wheel. (The LED will turn off) Release the button. (The LED will turn back on)
12h. Press the Program Button (this will skip Mute)
12i. Press the Program Button (This will skip Track Up)
12j. Press the Program Button (This will skip Track Down)
12k. Press and hold the source button on the steering wheel. (The LED will turn off) Release the button. (The LED will turn back on)
12l. Press and hold the Channel Up button on the steering wheel. (The LED will turn off) Release the button. (The LED will turn back on)
12m. Press and hold the Channel Down button on the steering wheel. (The LED will turn off) Release the button. (The LED will turn back on)
12n. Press the Program Button (This will skip Band)

After 7 seconds, the LED will now flash 3 times and then 8 times.
Programming is complete.

13. Turn the ignition to OFF.
14. Turn the ignition ON and everything should work.

Notes:
I decided to use Preset Up/Down because I would rather control my presets then to seek a station. We have so many presets, this doesnt bother me. I have to use the NUB to go from 92.3 to 92.5.
When a CD is in the drive, I have to use the NUB or touch screen to control the tracks.
If you have an iPod adaptor (The Preset Up/Down setup does not work. My brother has one.)

If you have an ipod adaptor, you may want to set it up with seek up/down instead of preset. This will allow iPod and cd track control. It will not let you control Presets.

All these settings work for XM as well.

Nice pics, your install makes me want the AVIC-D1 more and more.

Can you take a picture of the subwoofer control screen?

I don't have a sub, and i think you can only access the menu if a sub is installed.
I'll double check tomorrow.

Nope. Have to buy some parts for that. So i'm going to wait for a little bit on that..since it doesnt bother me that much. (Never had a car with the controls, so im used to reaching for the radio)

You need to get the remote for the D1 and then the Pac SWI-X
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZHUIiEs...info&i=127SWIX

Would get the Pac off eBay for about $40

What do you mean by bypass it - and why as of yesterday? What changed?

Oh yeah...thats my step 5

5. Grounded the parking brake and connected a second ground wire to the harness to unlock all features with navigation. (There is one empty pin on the Avic-D1 harness. Get an older pioneer harness, pull the pin, insert into the blank. Then ground it) (Followed Directions From Here)

Lets me change the route and everything else while driving.

The D1 doesnt have built in DVD. It only plays the navigation DVDs. You have to hook up an external DVD Player (PS2 is a good one).
