I highly reccomend the D2 over the D3. I currently have both of them. My wife has the D2 and I have the D3. It sucks having to take the CD out to put the Navi disk in if you want to get directions. I drove down to charlotte and if I wanted tofind a mcdonalds along the way. I had to take out the CD, let the navi disk load, then search for a place to stop. It takes time to load the NAVI disk. Then when you tak eout the navi disk it takes time to memorize the route and you cant zoom in all the way.

I like my wifes D2 much better. The only thing it cant do is play DVDs, but how often do you watch a DVD while driving your car?
D2 also has a bigger screen I think.

d2 > d3

i like the fact that i don't have to swap out dvd's just to play a cd while trying to get a song.

if you want dvd, do what 90% of the people with the d2 have and throw a ps2 in your glovebox.

i'm actually selling my whole setup d2, xm, ipod, ps2 for a pretty reasonable amount. pm me if you're interested

To clarify: the H900/H990 is part of the F1 system, and the H701 is NOT...

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ad.php?t=16368

I'm not sure if you're trying to impress anyone on SL by stating that you're getting an esoteric piece of gear - but why would you mention that you're getting a different processor on a car audio forum - minutes between posts?

To the OP: What are your system goals? What do you expect this unit to do for you? DVD/Navi/CD/iPod/etc? There are some other alternatives that might fit your needs better...

If you're torn between the D2 and D3, the D2 is a better choice...

i'm still up in the air with my idea and with the f1 status so i can run 3 way active with a component active in back and a center channel. h701 doesn't do that so its hard to say. probably the f1 but h701 is still an idea. and if it will work i'll go with h701

funds are a huge aspect

IF funds are a huge aspect, the H701 is the more cost effective solution. You'll need TWO H990s for a system like you've described (they can be daisy chained)...and the H701 won't be able to do it, period. You're going to have to use a passive network somewhere in the system; but if the speakers are close to each other, this isn't an issue...

if your ipod is your main source of music, then having only one slot for a cd will be no problem. i hardly take mine out since i use my ipod about 98% of the time

agreed, i'm in the early planning stages of the new system as you can tell from the diy site. theres a lot of questions and i really don't consider SL a good resource (unfortunitly) for a lot of the upscale audio stuff. I'm new to active and i'm new to processors etc.. so i'm still learning. the f1 has a huge advantage over the 205 / h701 BUT to get an ipod to work you have to pay for the adapter to the unit and the ipod seems a little excessive. yes the h701 / 205 is a better economical choice but there are major advantages to the f1 system.

but this is SOOO off topic haha

no you can't. you need to have an external dvd source. a slim ps2 for example will fit in the glovebox and its an easy fix

Wait!!! You're saying that D3 requires you to input a CD in order to use navigation? So you can listen to music CD and use navigation at the same time.

And D2 cannot play DVD at all. If so, I'll probably go with D2.

Exactly. There is only one slot. you can have a cd/dvd OR the navigation disk in. NOT BOTH.
The navigation can still be used, to a point. What you have to do, is load the navigation disk. Choose where you want to go. It routes you. You then eject the NAVI disk and insert a CD/DVD to use. It will tell you how to get where ever it is you wanted to go. BUT you cant change your route, you cant zoom all the way in, you cant use points of interest. And if you go off route, it doesnt recalculate the best route, it trys to get you back to the intersection you missed.
That part sucks, sometimes it is obvious the navigation didnt take the best route (maybe it wants a business interstate instead of main interstate) if you choose to go a different way, it wont recalculate where to pick up when you get back to the main interstate.

So pretty much, unless you have an IPOD, i dont reccomend the D3. But if you dont use the NAVI much, I like the D3s features better. For me, I wont travel many places in my car without knowing where I am. We use my wifes car for long trips.

But for D2, there is just no DVD player option at all. That's the only draw back, correct?
