I'd shop from here instead. better stuff, better customer service and better pricing. I have no idea about what you posted, but it honestly doesn't look like that good of an idea. The wattage can be confusing and most large companies like that put an insane number on there to get it to sell.

What are you looking for out of your system? Insane loud bass that will rattle your teeth, or just something to compliment the music you listen to? That's the decision you have to make. The sub you posted is actually 1000 Watts peak, and 250 watts RMS, so you would want the amp to be around 250 watts otherwise you could damage the speaker.
I've had JBL subs in the past, not this one exactly, but older models and they were good subs and I have no compliants about them. I haven't heard that particular sub before, so I guess I can't reply to your question, but my guess is it will sound fine.

You're easily convinced aren't you? JK.
Post up what you are looking to accomplish with your system. The type of music you listen to, SPL or SQ (Loudness or Quality) and people on here can guide you in the right direction.

I wont get into all the math, "Selective" testing and skewing of numbers used by audio companies. I will just say, a true 1000W signal into that will destroy it unless it is a VERY short spike. They can provide numbers that pump up a speaker a long way because the average joe doesnt understand power ratings, the test signals used to determine the numbers, the duration, etc.
And, as mentioned, speaker design is the big thing. I can make a homeade speaker that can dissipate 1000W all day, non-stop. Trouble is, it wont make much sound. Wattage and sound output are two different things.
I also reccomend looking at ED. They have great prices, and from what I have gathered so far, great products. Going off what I know now, when I do the system in mine and/or in our 4Runner, it will be ED all the way.

Apparently one of the gf's friends lives down there so she wants a weekend trip to the cities

And yeah, give us what you want out of your car stereo and then suggestions could be made.
I'm pretty sure the 1000W rating on that sub is like an amp that says 200W RMS 1000W peak.
Oh, my bad...just checked the specs page:
Peak Power Rating: 1000W
RMS Power Range: 250W
250 RMS 1000W peak...I can believe that one. One thing to keep in mind in the world of retail car audio. If there's a huge # in yellow or some other attention grabbing color, maybe it's in one of those little starburst style outlines, it's there for marketing. Find the smaller spec list on the box for the real world #'s that the item is capable of.
