Default Best way to secure new subwoofer next to spare tire?

Hi everyone, my 2009 tC came with the small stock subwoofer below the cargo mat to the right of the spare tire. I’m currently planning a stealth system to replace the stock sub. My main question right now is how to best secure the sub in that area. I’d like to screw it down, but I’m not sure what’s beneath that area, and I don’t want to accidentally drill into the gas tank or anything else. My backup idea is industrial-strength Velcro, but I’m not sure how well that’ll hold over time.

Any ideas on the best way to secure a sub to that location? If this system turns out well, I’m definitely going to share the details about it, because I think it’s going to be very easy for almost anyone to pull off, and it should be pretty stealthy.

I'm interested in this also. I personally like the stock sound system in my '10 but still. If I knew I could replace the stock sub with something that doesn't take up any trunk space then I would be definitely interested.

Yeah, I'm really hoping it'll work well! Most of the parts should arrive in the next few days, so I'm going to try to install everything this weekend if it's not too cold outside. I'll post the results as soon as I can so other people can try it if they want.

For anyone reading this, in case it wasn't clear in my original post, I'm basically wondering if it's safe to drill a few holes into the metal to the right of the spare tire so I can screw the new subwoofer enclosure down. I seem to remember someone warning that it's possible to drill into the gas tank or other sensitive stuff there, so I definitely want to avoid that. If nobody knows, I guess I'll just have to go slide up under the car to check for myself, haha...

I would just get under the car and look man, it's better to be safe than sorry...

I've got the Elemental Designs stealth subwofer box, they're out of business but you can see photos of the box if you want to replicate it, and it just sits in place of the foam box...no fastening through or to the floor to hold it in place. Mine came with a weather strip style of foam backing on the bottom of my box...it is nice and pliable and conforms to the floor...kind of acts as an adhesive to the floor.

There is structure on three sides and the spare tire on the fourth...you really don't need to fasten your box down to anything, and the carpet clips down in place anyway. So with the weight of the box, the carpet on top, and being surrounded on all four sides.....I think your velcro idea will be more than sufficient to hold a stealth box in place under the trunk floor.

Thanks ropes! Yeah, too bad ED went out of business. I'll go ahead and plan on using industrial-strength Velcro to see how well it works. If it holds fine, I won't bother with screwing anything down.

I'll post an update in this thread once I've had a chance to install everything.
