Default big thanks to elemental designs and mandos!

So last night, since we are finally getting nice weather, I installed my stealth eD box and sq10. Most of you guys seem to like the "look at my 3 12's in my what used to be usuable hatch space". I personally did not want to see ONE peice of equipment -Amps mounted to the back of seats, or under seats looks horrible to me, and so do visable wires.

The effect I wanted is -- when someone owns a tC, or doesnt own a scion period sits in it and says, "damn, why does this factory system hit so dammnnn hard?".

After recieving my box/sub, I was thinking to myself... how is something this small going to hit hard? I had a custom enclosure built in my porsche 944 that housed 1 15" cerwin vega that was built in a false floor type box, that was raised. That thing was crushing bass, but you could acctually hold a conversation over it, it was just real deep.

Fast forward -

So I sold my 944 a month or so ago - to my friend that has 2 other porsches (944 turbo, and a 930 slantnose) and took out my amp, and farad cap. I let him keep the box/sub since it was for that car.

I installed my JBL BP600.1 class D sub amp, with a 1.0 farad cap behind the rear speaker panel just like Chris did. (Chris, that was a B I T C H !!) because the fit was pretty tight (especially with the farad cap installed as well.) after about 1.5 hours, that was mounted proper... (sheesh!)

Everything else (wires and L.O.C.) went pretty quick. ( i am using the stock H.U. until I get my Avic-D3). I found a factory grommet that was on the drivers side (I read about some of you guys drilling extra holes and stuff, why not use whats there?).

Now everything is hooked up, and the sq10 does hit pretty hard.. . I would show pictures of the final install, but you wouldnt see anything! (Thats the point!).

The ONLY downside is lack of bass control because the stock H.U. doesnt have a sub tuning section just F and R..

I cant wait until this thing gets plugged up with my avic, and eD door components.

Again this post is just a thank you to the guys (and girl!) over at eD, and just to say you have another satisfied (and will be a repeat customer).

Chris thanks for the idea about the amp behind the rear panels out of eye sight.. I though I would have to do a underseat amp mount, or remove something from the rear.

Total install time from start to finish was a little over 2.5 hours, and a little over 5 beers. I would also like to thank the makers of Blue Moon .

Thanks again Elemental Designs and all staff!

pics of 930? :D

i'm going a similar route with my car. completely stealth. except i'm mounting my crossovers for the door speakers on the kickpanels to preserve space for later. i've got the sq10 in the stealth eD box and my NINe.2 and NINe.4 are mounted like chris's car. to adjust the sound, i've got a clarion EQ going up under the glove box. unfortunately, i take longer than a single day with my install and i still have to install the power fuse and battery terminals, power, ground and remote to the EQ, mount the rear speakers and mount the driver's side front crossover. then i'll be done.

i did however test my sq10 yesterday. i was parked next to my gf's 4runner, where i installed a 10" JBL. i left about 20 feet of speaker cable in her truck. so, i ran that cable over to my car, turned both cars' radios on to the same radio station, and sat in my back seat to enjoy the first test run. aahhh

now, PICS OF THAT 930!!! and all other porsches, if you please

edit:
here's all i got visible:

and my amp sub on the passenger side:

hold on while i mop the drool off my keyboard.
there's several sites that can host pics for you (photobucket.com, imageshack.us), and you just put:
[ img]URL of picture[ /img] to post the pic (remove the space within the img brackets.)
or if you have an account on icix, elemental design's forum, you can host pics there.
last, you can just send them to me for my collection, and i can post them up. :D

Glad to hear more positive stuff about the sq10 and edstealth... i ordered and installed mine... hell, probably over 2 weeks ago... but fedex damaged my first sq10, then claimed they were coming to get it so I could get a new one from ed. 3 Days pass and nobody shows up. Finally I get a new sq10 shipped... it's been in transit from ed to maryland for 9 days. It's been riding around my town in a fedex truck for 5 days. I am so indescribably fedUp with fedEx right now.

I've got my old bazooka 10" laying face down in the stealth box hooked up to the amp that is waaayyy overpowering that poor pathetic subwoofer... so rather than a nice, stealth, good soundin,g thumping system... I've got a half a**ed sub setup with a factory fart noise maker protruding from the cargo area of my trunk.

pth th th th
pth th th th
pth th th th

So tomorrow, I'm driving 2 hours to pick my sub up from fedex... useless. I'll let you know what I think then...

drove hours... and hours... and finally got my sub... this is after getting lost and driving in circles around dundalk for a while -- which, as anybody who knows maryland knows that Dundalk is a "really great place"...

Plugged it in at the fedex place. At first... I'm almost dissapointed. The factory bazooka sub hit so much better than this. But I haven't yet begun to toy with the eq/settings at all... so I'll do that while I'm driving home. I'm listening to things like Cypress Hill and Damian Marley... things that should be having beats but aren't beating... just kinda nothing really. So I decide to go with non-mp3 format and throw in Deftones, White Pony. Tweaking the settings a bit and within minutes, I'm perma-grinned. Mind you, the White Pony cd is an example of exemplary recording and divine mastering.

So then I throw in some Floater... a superior band, but independent recording/mastering -- so things can get a little 'hot' as they say in the recording industry. Suddenly, it's all rattles and eh's from the sub... A quick turn down...

So, I've a lot of work to do to find that line of optimum performance without "subdeath" (trademarked) and without having to tweak every setting every time a different band or audio format comes on -- but from what I heard with the White Pony Cd... just exceptional. I mean.. my sunroof and doors won't be opening when I'm listening to the radio... but I kind of consider that a good thing.

The sound quality, responsiveness... everything is far superior to the factory sub. I mean... It's rude of me to even compare the two. It hits not nearly as hard as many setups, but it does hit pretty d*mn hard. Hard enough to make me look around and feel a little ashamed.

Thank you ed and Mandos for a wonderful product... but you should deffinately ship UPS... this shipping experience was the worst two weeks of my life. Ok, maybe not the worst - but not 'fun'. Don't spose you guys wanna come out here and custom tune my setup

I'm at work just waiting to play with my new toy.. but I'm so distracted by it, I'm not getting any work done.

How much power @ what ohms rms are other people with the sq10 and stealth box pushing to it?? I'm trying to get a feel for just how cautious I should be with my setup as I'm worried I might be in the danger zone for this setup.

i'm the same as you right now. distracted at work. my boss just left?! for where beats me. so, i feel like sneaking out.
i just got everything wired up in my car last night and only have left the rear speakers to mount, then i'll be done.

during my lunch break, i blasted through most of my ipod mini to hear how the SQ10 handled each song. it held up very well with no muddiness in all the genres i have loaded. i had stuffed a shirt under the north end of the false floor to prop it up a little since the sub must have been hitting it on some songs. it was sounding weird, and probably kicking my shoes around at the same time.
i know whoever was out in the parking lot gave me some weird looks when i played fergie. but, the song has great bass, and i was testing!!
i'll have to tweak all of my settings tonight when i have more time. i only played with the dials on my EQ during lunch.

my SQ10 is powered by a NINe.2 at 4 ohms.

edit:
eD's site rates the NINe.2 at 1x400 @ 4 ohms max and the SQ10 at 250/500 watts RMS

Bridged, I assume - so your running 400w?

If that's so, then I should have noooo problems.

edit:
oh... just saw your edit. I'm only pushing 312watts@2ohm through an infinity reference so I should be just fine. I wonder what all that rattling was then... sounded like the speaker... but then again, I haven't edeaded anything... so, as far as I know, it's the entire car. hahah... oye lots of work to do still... but it's all on the car, so that's a-ok with me.

oh, yes. i'm bridging it. this setup is what chris at eD suggested.

and on bridging. i laugh that it seems to be the worst kept secret. i remember when i first got into car audio about 10 years ago. people would ask if i knew about bridging my amp to a mono output and get more power that way. hello?! the amps say "bridge" right on it and point to which terminals to use. LOL

Yeah, I discovered bridging pretty early on.... at the cost of two rather expensive 12" JBLs.

It went kind of like this...

me: "It's really loud... but can I make it louder some how?"
friend: "You could bridge it."
me: "Oh, how do I do that?"...

A couple days later the speakers were literally, physically shredded... like they had not just 'blown' but exploded. It's not something to be proud of... but I am. However, I'm trying not to do it again.

I didn't really think it was possible... but I have no other explanation for why I was picking shreds of speaker out of my trunk for weeks after.

hahahaha that's hilarious. no offense to your mistake, though. i would have probably done the same thing in your situation.

i've got v1se^2 under v4 on most of my car. i think the SQ10 was rebounding off of the false floor and it was making the sound to distort. i may have to do some sort of screen like Golden86 had done with a new false floor for his dual SQ10 box.

Well, we did do UPS....and they suck for service. FedEx has been on top of everything. In the month since we changed over, yours was the first damage claim. More of a we don't know how they work yet kinda thing.

Shoot me an e-mail directly, cschempp@edesignaudio.com. I'll talk to our FedEx rep about your service, he'll get things fixed.

The nine.2 - does it have any sort of high/low filters on it? Also, are you throwing any sort of 'bass boost' or 'loudness' at it from the HU? When I'm listening to CDA, it sounds amazing - not too much, not too little - just amazing.

The problem is, I usually listen to MP3's and they seem to clip the sub all the time. The only way I can make them not clip is to turn the bassboost and loudness off - but then the sub doesn't really seem to do much at all - like, far less than the factory sub. I feel like there's something screwy here, but I've been twisting ***** and tweaking settings for hours and I can't seem to find a happy medium.

Also, my amp has this stupid dbo channel... dynamic boost something or other. I'm thinking I should maybe take it off that channel.

Matt,

Make sure it isn't the flap on the side bouncing. I've seen it happen, and it sounds horrible. The speaker shouldn't physically be able to hit the flap.

If anyone is having the frustrating time setting their stuff up, give us a call. I set one of these up in THansanite's car = awesome.

chris, i'm sure it's the flap. i would hope the box isn't just a hair too big. LOL. it's the second box i've gotten!! ;)
my temp fix of a shirt to prop and wedge the flap up works great for now. whenever it stops raining, i'll figure out what the deal is. if it stops before june 15.

memoire,
i've been switching between adding bass and taking it off from the stock HU. depends on the song, and i haven't had a chance to look into how to make the sound consistent in each song.

uh-huh! OK! (get crunk!) YEEAAAHHH!

looking forward to installing my new avic d3 i ordered now, ill gain full control over the sub (rather than a LOC). I also will be ordering the eD comp setup (or maybe DLS). but ill be giving you a call in the next week or so again chris. just wanted to run an idea or 2 by you and see what your recomendation is.

thanks!

damn... there must be something funky with my setup. I get it *almost* to the level I want it - which is hardly more than the factory sub and then it's all clips. tap tap tap tap tap... I wonder if the clipping is actually at the amp and not at the sub... Everybody's telling me that I should be fine with my amp and this sub... but it's just not performing very well. I can't listen to the hippity hop at all... unless I want to to turn it down like I'm trying not to wake somebody up. :?
I know a bit about this stuff... but only a bit... could the clipping be coming from the amp? The sub never seems to distort or anything until it clips entirely. I've never had a sub 'clip' before... they usually just distort...

this is like.. boom boom *tap* boom ... if that means anything and the 'clip' light flashes on the amp... anybody have any insight?

if it is the amp... then maybe I should just bite the bullet and get the recommended nine.2... but that runs at 4ohms bridged and I have a 2ohm sq10
