The glass isn't broken... Just take the board out and reheat the solder. It's super easy. If you look at the opposite side of the board, you'll be able to see the legs from the lcd sticking out...
No i never took it apart. It looks like a small crack happened in the LCD.
i dont think thats the issue ... i think i need a new lcd

Be sure and double check your warranty status at a nearby dealership.
I broke mine by looking to see what LED's I needed, and I took it to the dealer and blamed it on the Texas heat....got a free installed replacement same day.

I can source an hvac for you & also perform a swap if you like. That is, if the dealer does not take care of you. Cracking the screen is VERY difficult to do when it is inside the waterfall, so would have to be a defect. Hit me up if you need any help or have any questions on the matter. Happy to help.
That does not look like a crack to me... and trust me, I have worked on a LOT of the HVACs as have Jeremy and Trung (garage and squall).
A crack would end up bleeding through.. a black line would first appear and it would then start to form a black spot. I am not seeing that in the pics.
Reheating the solder on the backs of the pins is the first thing to try. Takes about 10 minutes.. including removing the HVAC from the car, if you have a soldering iron and know how to do it. After reheating them (without overheating them) I would check for shorts between the pins. This can happen on the other side of the board if too much solder was originally used.
If none of that works, then it could actually be a bad LCD or an issue on the board itself. If you are going to leave the color stock, then I would just look on car-part.com for a replacement (give them the right year model. For an 06 you can use either the 05 or 06 unit, but not the 07+). You can usually get one for well under $100.. and most include the waterfall which you could resell.
This is, of course assuming you have no bumper to bumper warranty left. You dont want to pay the $500 or so for a new one.

this happened to me while doing the led swap on my hvac. mine had a huge black dot right in the middle. had to get a whole new one from someone here on the forum. paid like $25 shipped.

there is a possibility that there is a crack still that we can't see in the pictures.. however i would have the dealership replace it for free..
and if they refuse to do so.. bring it up higher and figure stuff out from there.
Yep, I have seen those as well.
I have also fixed a few for people where it was a solder bridge or bad joint on the pins causing it too. Normally that is after they did an led swap, but it is possible to have a bad joint from the factory as well.
