Default Bucket Seat Harness

I want to know about harnesses for my tC. I want to buy a pair for when I equip Bride recliner seats. Having a tC there has been many occasions that I use the backseat for other passengers such as friends and family. Which is why I am soon to purchase reclineable seats. I am also thinking of purchasing a pair of 4 point harnesses. I don't want to buy a harness bar cause it gets in the way of people who want to sit in the back. I heard that using the long shoulder straps which attach to the floor is bad when you get into an accident and the harnesses mess up your shoulders. I mean is that really true? couldn't I still be safe and not use the harness bar? I really don't know so I need some feedback from everyone...thanks.

its horrible you'll break your back if you get in an accident. you need to get long ones and put them to the rear seat.

a BMW E46 harness bar w/ Corvette C5 supports will work, but you will have to trim your "B" panel to make it bolt up to the seatbelt bolts. This is the Sparco style btw, you can purchase them from here as well. Just send them the measurements from bolt to bolt across, and the distance from the top of the stock seat (below the headrest) to the bottom seatbelt mount. Paid around $400 for mine, just don't know if I want to cut the panels yet or not....

its call a b pillar bar with a detachable pin lock so u can remove the pins and bar incase u need access to the back seats...grade 8 + pins or bolts should be used

using long harnesses will not be safe either... only and correct way is to have a harness bar level to the seat harness inserts

thanks / thread.

isn't the b-pillar bar the same as a harness bar? how would u attach the bar? is it bolted to the seatbelt bolt? i looked at that bolt and its fully covered by the panel. pete, u wouldn't happen to know a link to that b-pillar bar do u?

no thats something that i suggest you have custom made..theres something out right now u can buy that is a mount for a harness but its mad expensive

i suggest just looking online for a few designs and doing it yourself or with a machine shop.... once u have the frame done all you need is some kind of end link or bracket were you can slide bolts trough and clamp it down when in use.. and unbolt the bolts when u need it.. i guess it can be fun for people in the back to have something to hold on to..lol

you can still run you regular seat belts with after market seats.. thats no issue.. harness really should be used when racing/autoX... for daily driving its a bit much but if your a spirited drive who likes to carve corners then its great.

i thought i wanted to get them for added if not better safety. that was my whole idea of getting them in the first place. But i also wanted to get them because i want to go to a track for fun and do time attacks with friends. but then again u cant enter the track without a belt harness. so i guess the dilema is to carry friends and not have a harness or design for track and get a harness. damn it...what do u guys think is the best option to do both?

schroth harnesses are th only ones i know that are safe to mount to the stock rear seat mounts... (indeed it doesn't have to be in a straight line.. which i even believed before)

watching the videos of schroth's ASM system... yeah... puts me at ease... and they claim to be the only DOT approved aftermarket harness out there in the world.

my race buddies swear by them... so i'm gonna say i do too.

however.... it even tells you that you can't have rear passengers if you're using them... but the install allows you to still use your regular seatbelt on those occasions as you never really remove them anyway..

and you can unclip the harness easily to allow passengers to sit in the back.

takata makes a part that can attach the two rear mounts to a standard seatbelt clip. Next year when I will be running takatas I will also be running a auto power half cage with the harness bar. It is pricey but I think my life is something that I need to spend a bit of money. I don't think takatas are dot approved but they're definitly fia approved which in my mi d is much more safe than dot.

i dont get it, ok get a harness bar good for 4/5point belts. but aren't you still worry about your safety? of not having a full rollcage, what if you roll over with just a harness bar, you will get crush.

i find it totally pointless to have 4/5point harness for the streets.

i bought mine specifically for auto-x applications and the ease of install and usage... at this point in time, no need for a roll bar yet, and the schroth allows to to mount them to your stock rear points.

yeah.. i know and imo would also think that FIA has more safety stuff than DOT... but... i dunno... stupid laws out there that define what street legal is or not... and DOT is one of them.

then ehhh... 4/5 harnesses are comfy to wear if anything, really... even if some people find it pointless.

I know but rolling over and having the roof cave in while being stuck in 4/5point harness isn't a good thing.
