what features do you want in an alarm system?

I got the Viper 3000. It's a step down from the 791 (in some ways), but they're both paging alarms. I don't have the LCD display on my remote, but I'm able to adjust the shock sensor from the remote (haven't seen/heard how to do it on the 791 other than going to the installer). I also got a couple modules added to the alarm, like motion sensor, glass break sensor, and controllers for the windows (lock rolls up windows, another button to roll windows down). Another cool feature about the 3000 (not sure about other models) is you can press the lock button while the engine is started. If someone carjacks you, the car won't start again once the shut the engine off, even if they have your keys and remote.

Other features some alarms have are built in turbo timer, remote start, and a lot more. Look up DEI's website www.directed.com

Yeah its supposedly the Viper 330v... but I got it installed and it wasn't working properly... I don't know if it was just a faulty alarm or what. Basically, you have to press the unlock twice... to disengage the factory and viper alarms. But the unlock on my key would only disengage one of them so I would open the door and the alarm would go off and I would have to put the key into the ignition to turn it off. Anyway after they messed with it for hours... they said it wouldn't work and they don't know why (they never tested another alarm) and finally I got them to uninstall it and get my money back. I really want an alarm that would work on my key also... There is a thread on here that has an install of the Hornet 727t which is the same thing as the Viper 330v... made by the same company. Anyway, if you find out anything... hit me up. I'm going to try a different place later in the week and see what they say.

So I talked to a local car security place. They said it shouldn't be a problem at all... they didn't understand why the other place would have a problem. Anyway, so I'm dropping it off saturday morning at 9am to get it installed... Probably by saturday mid-day I should find out if it works or not. They are charging me $250 versus the other place was charging me $200... its not really a good deal but its not a rip off either. Just don't care about $50 for the headache.

So got it installed today. Working fine. Regular one press on the button to unlock and lock. One thing... if you press it too many times to unlock I think it gets confused... I think I pressed it four times. But other than that. The horn sound isn't as loud as when the first guy tried to install it... and the sensitivity seems a little too low... I can rock the car and it won't even react. But the guy gives a warranty on his install so I am sure he can adjust those settings. Gonna give him a call tomorrow. But overall... working great! So yeah go ahead and do it... the guy told me that the first guy totally messed up the door triggers but they fixed them. Paid a little more but got reliable service.
