Default carpc question

i am interested in putting a pc in my tc when i get it (hopefully getting the car next week) but i was trying to calculate the cost. i have enough parts at my house to build a pc and i have a cube case so i could put it in the trunk without taking up much room. i found this monitor ($200).

besides that what else would i need for this to work? and how hard would this be to set up?

First of all, check out the site posted by cherryBox. search for scion tc. there is a lot of people with carpc setup for the tc including myself.
here is my link in mp3car

As far as the screen is concern, i would suggest going with a 7" screen, if you still want to make use of the console cover. An 8" would require major alteration to the console which will remove the oem look in you design. I have the 7" lilliput 629 in my screen and the only modifications where to the screen and not the console. so I can always go back to the factory radio very easily.

As far as the difficulty of set up, the most would be the fabrication of the lcd. wiring should be straight forward.

Powering the monitor and the pc should also be a concern. you can either go with an inverter (not recommended) or dc-dc power supply. but that can limit what type of system to get as these do go provide a lot of power to feed power hungry systems.
I got the m2-atx which gives about 160w

Sound: you also need to determine how you are going to get sound from your pc to your car speaker. the easier way to go is find a cd reciever with an aux input and connect that to your pc ( set up that i have) or use an amp and forget using a radio.
if you are thinking of using the stock radio with aux in. you should try to find a place to put the radio assuming that you put the screen where the stock radio was. the stock radio is rather bulkly to relocate however.

this is just a tip of information you will get from the newbie section in mp3cars. I would suggest reading through it as you may find many of the issue and questions that you have will have already been answered.
