Default CEL!?!? WTF!? *Problem found and solved*

Yesterday i ran some wiring for my boost guage (Just preping everything before hand), and of course went poking around with a test light trying to find a 12v parking light source. Well after what seemed like forever i got fed up and just spliced into the lead to the tiny ugly little bulb inside the cubby where the shifter is. So i spliced into that and removed the tiny bulb cuz i've always hated it. Ran ground, everything worked, cool. So then i hit the sack. When i woke up and headed out for work tonight i noticed i had a freaking CEL!!! How the hell can you throw it by poking around with a test light!?!? Anyone know what the heck it could be? I'll find out when i get to class in the morning. I'll hook it up to an OBD machine, but until then, it's REALLY bugging me, haha.

Hmm.... could be random dumb luck.... shouldn't be anything in relation your wiring.... only good way to know is to get it read.... (That's why I always suggest the bigger modders get a obd tool from www.obddiagnostics.com - REALLY great feature filled setup.

My best guess is that you tapped into the wrong wire.

Test lights add more resitance to the wire and what I think you did was maybe toasted something or it is trippin out. Never ever ever use a test light in new cars. Get a dmm or tap at the ign. harn.. Check out http://bulldogsecurity.com/ in the menu bar they have wiring diagrams. Get it checked out and pray that you didnt toast anything.

It could also be that he back-fed the computer and fried something.

did you unplug anything under the hood to test and forget to plug back in?
in anycase
pull the negative off your battery and reset your system.

Default *Problem Found*

Alrighty, i took it to class after work yesterday and plugged it to our OBD machine. The code that was thrown was a Bank 01 Lean condition. I got worried for a sec cuz theres no way the primary O2 sensor should be acting up unless it's gone bad. Well then it struck me! About 4 days ago i took my CAI off and put the stock airbox back on cuz i sold the CAI because of going F/I soon, but anyways, like an NBA player missing a shot right under the goal, i realized i forgot the hook the crankcase ventilation hose back up to the intake! Without it hooked up there's a hole in the intake after the filter and after the MAF sensor. So excess air unaccounted for by the MAF was getting in throwing my AFR lean. So having it come on after poking around with a test light was just coincidence. Suprised it took 4 days for it to come on. I figure its cuz i've babied the car since putting the airbox back on and it was cold cold COLD outside when i cranked it up last night when coming to work, and i guess it just took a little bit of that colder denser air to finally throw a code. I hooked it back up, erased the code, and all is well

I just can't believe i missed that I guess i deserve it for rushing.
