hopefully somebody can help me out here. tonight we changed out all the stock leds for the gauge cluster on my girlfriends 08 tC. we changed all the leds to white and some to red (like the check engine light). well when we plugged the gauge cluster back in, the check engine light is on. does anybody know if maybe the red led we soldered there is soldered wrong causing it to be on?

try unplugging the cluster for awhile?

yeah we did. we went to a meet with our club and one of our guys took it out and took it home to do the swaps. when the meet was over we drove over there to pick it up. we probably drove about 5 miles without it.

 

watching...... because i would drive too if i send my cluster to someone to change the leds. is this a bad thing to do?

 

That is it. IF you drive much without the cluster, it will trigger a CEL. You can either reset the ECU or just drive it around for about 20 - 30 miles and it will go away. Sometimes it wont cause a CEL, sometimes it will.

 

not good, your mileage will be off...

 

Only by the amount they drove. A lot of people drive their cars while their gauges are off for a swap. The idea is to just keep it to a minimum.

 

so if i take the cluster off for a year then i will have only a few miles on my car? so i can sell my car good price??? NICE :D:D:D

 

ok cool. hopefully it will go away by today. just in case, how do i reset the ecu?

 

disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

you'll have to reset the windows and you'll lose your radio presets.. but that's about it.

yea.. driving without the cluster is a hit and miss as engifineer mentioned.. sometimes it'll cause a CEL, sometimes not

All my customer who drove without the gauge cluster threw CEL....
Just simple reseting the battery does the trick....
