Cold Cathode Installation
I need help with powering my cathodes either from the battery, or the fusebox. Which is more reliable? I have two cathodes placed underneath the dash on the driver and passenger sides. I attempted tapping into the fusebox but got no power from it. Just a few tips on placement and powering methods. Anything will help. Thanks
agreed^ or buy an add-a-fuse for like 6 bucks. that's what i did. you just need to check empty slots for power. or tap into something that turns on with your car. ex: radio, cig lighter etc. or if you want them to come on with something (if your not running a switch) like dome lights/parking lights. good thing about cig lighter is no need for a fuse but sometimes if you use the cig lighter it'll blow the fuse haha happened to me in the beginnging that's why i ran it to the fusebox........so yeah fusebox or if your lazy....cig lighter =]
I do have a switch that i am adding to the dash to turn it on and off. Any suggestions to the fuse slot that i should add it to?

This is the link to the "add a fuse" line that i bought, however, i bought the mini version because the regular does not fit.

there should be empty slots in the fusebox i think i used the one thats in between two fuses (don't know if that helps lol) but id probably use the radio. thats the first mod i ever did to my car.
i think its the only empty one in between two existing fuses, don't quote me though haha

^ i wouldn't do that cus if you forget to turn it off and go to sleep it'll drain the battery. just tap into the one fuse slot i mentioned bfore i can check later for the exact slot # for you. if you use that one you can control it by the switch but if you leave it on and forget to turn it off when you get out of the car it'll turn off when you take the keys out =]
well i mean depend on people tho. i have 2 swtichs running to led lights . well switch by it self dont drain the battery to point that ur car battery die. if u leave it on yes it will. as long as u leave it off u r fine.
OP, where are you located? I do CC and LED footwell lighting installs all the time. When I did amber LED's in the ex gf's car, u just ran a power line directly off the battery and put an in-line fuse. Then got an OEM-look switch from Oznium.com that fit in one of the empty slots on the left side of the steering wheel. Super easy install, I did have to drill some holes in the passenger-side plastic cover under the glove box to attach some zip ties to though for mounting (coz 3m tape peels off after a while).
definitely zip ties ftw. but when wouldyou ever show your car off w/o your keys on your person? idk i just don't see the need to run it constant. run it to this fuseslot to have it turn on/off with a switch and off with your car. i used i think two 4a fuses for the add a fuse (lowest ones i could find)
I understand what you're saying. It is nice for car shows and events like that though to have them be able to be on all the time. Mine is wired to my a/c so it's only on when the key is in, but in my ex's car she was always dropping stuff in her footwells and it was handy for her to have that extra lighting whenever she needed.
yeah. i mean sometime im going into gas station or some that i show ma car off. its still hooked up to switch and i can turn it on and off . i dont forget about it. i have lights under the dash in side pocket front door. evey door speakers. tweeter and door handle lol. i have it to switch that i can turn under the dash on when i want and door on when i want lol
