Console ports: Am I screwed?
So I got an iPod for Christmas, and I was pretty excited about finally being able to play my MP3's on that in my car instead of having dozens of CDs. For a minute. I never received the iPod cable from the dealer, but I figured that wouldn't be too much of a hassle since I could just order that at the dealer tomorrow. But I decided to pop the CD that came with my tC into my computer, and check out the owner's manual stuff on the iPod head unit. Apparently there's a jack inside the center console labeled iPod. Which I don't exactly have. I have a power outlet, an AUX port, and a square piece of plastic.
So I suppose my question is: Is that something they originally intended to do in the car, but later integrated the feature into the AUX port...or did I get seriously ripped off, and the dealership didn't fully install everything they were supposed to for the upgraded head unit? And before anyone asks, yes, I do know I have the iPod head unit because I can change the colors on it, etc. If the dealership did screw this up...what can I do?

No, actually the iPod port is seperate from the Aux port. The Aux and DC jack come standard on the car. If thats all you have and you paid the dealer for the iPod install then you need to go have them install it for you.
well with the aux port, you hook up your iPod but you have to control it at the iPod. with the optional iPod ready stereo (factory accessory) you hook up your iPod to the iPod port and you control it thru the deck.
rivas_203 I think we posted simultaneously, and yeah, i forgot to mention that part, it will work with the aux but you have to control it on the iPod, however you will need a 1/8" male cable to 1/8" male cable to use the AUX port. The iPod upgrade lets you control it from the deck
If that square piece doesnt say ipod on it and it doesnt slide off then yes you were screwed over. Just take it in show them you invoice they'll be like o man sorry about that come back we'll have it finished in a couple hours. I'm sure theres a perfectly logical reason why they conviently forgot to install the rest of the kit.
This really sucks, but I'm a little worried about it because every tC at the dealership has this head unit. I need to check in some others and see if they have the port or not. I didn't bother asking for the iPod upgrade because it already had it when I got there.
Update: Apparently the particular port of entry that my car went through doesn't install full iPod upgrade setups, but they do install only iPod head units. So I got the good head unit, but I still need the cables and jack to use the iPod with it. So I should be getting all those parts for about 140, with 70 for installation at the dealership. Not a great deal, but I suppose it's almost like getting a discounted iPod-ready upgrade. Either way, I learned a few things today:
1. Nobody at the dealership knows what they're doing. :D
2. Nobody at the port knows what they're doing. :D
3. Nobody at Toyota knows what they're doing. :D
4. But damn I still love this car. :D

uhh.. you paid how much for the iPod upgrade... you did order with it right?
if you did.. those cables should've been provided already... period.... shouldn't pay for them.
$70 for install is too much imo too.. you can do it yourself.

It wasn't on the window sticker, but I figured it was integrated into the price they posted as the MSRP. Now I'm pretty sure I didn't pay for it, rather I got the iPod head unit for the price of the regular one, just without the cables and iPod jack.
I was thinking about installing it myself, but I heard the cables are really integrated into the car and it would be a pain to do it myself. Plus, the customer relations manager at the dealership is being really cool with me, so she might cut me a deal on the install. Guess I'll have to find out in the next couple days.

no.. the current cable that you are speaking of as being "really integrated" is already inside the car stock.
(except for the '05s)
you only need to connect and route the other cables which is not difficult at all... i've done it before.
but then again.. i can tear apart the car blindfolded and with one hand tied behind my back...
believe me... it's not difficult... all plug and play wiring.

Wow....you are special.
You didnt buy the "ipod headunit". You may think you did, and you didnt.
The owners manual says that there is a ipod jack there when it isnt so that they can show people that have the actual ipod upgrade headunit without having to print seperate pages.
Every tC comes stock with a "Aux" input. You actually hafta get up, go out, and buy a male to male headphone jack and plug one end into that "Aux" and plug the other end into your ipod.
You didnt buy no ipod headunit or upgrade, your just confused.
And...like Squall said, its pretty easy. All those parts from the factory are plug and play, and its all pretty easy. You just hafta take off your center console, replace the headunit with the "ipod headunit" and then run the ipod cable for that special ipod headunit under the cup holders, and that little piece of plastic that you had there that says nothing, just pop that out and put that little ipod piece there.
Its not hard if you know some basic stereo knowledge.
Also, you paid $140 for that ipod headunit from the dealer?
I thought that upgrade was like some stupid ridiculous price that wasnt really worth it. Looks like you got a good deal on that ipod headunit upgrade.

no he paid 140 for the wiring harness, and the port his car came through installs only the ipod headunit they don't install the base model HU, every scion comes with that aux port now, but he knows for a fact his HU is the upgraded
