Cruise Control Limit to 20 minutes...
I commute a lot from San Diego to Los Angeles (about 140 miles). And I cruise control all the way. Anyways what I'm asking is that, on the manual it says to never cruise control at the same speed for no more than 20 minutes. I variate from between 5 miles +/- every 20 minutes or so. Can someone with some background, can tell me why this is the case? Is it bad for the engine to cruise at the same speed? does it wear out that gear more faster? Technical opinion is greatly appreciated. Sorry didn't mean to post this in the xB section. I guess it applies to the all the scions.
That is a really good question... Are you sure it's not just during the break in period? 'Cause I know in the manual for the tC it just says during the first 1000 miles to avoid driving at the same speed for long periods of time on a MT

I have a 2006 xB and bought the Rostra cruise control and walked through the installation before deciding to have a pro do it. I have studied both the car's manual and the Rostra manual, and don't see the 20-minute limit on cruising.
In 2006 I took the xB on a 2500-mile trip and used the cruise control a lot. I don't know if I didn't touch it for 20 minutes, though. In the North East, that's a long time to go between speed changes.
I wouldn't worry about it, on the way to scion united and back I was using cruise control. Not to mention I was going the same speed 80% of the time. As its been stated the only time that it is really important is when the car is in the break-in period, once its broken in, it should be fine (plus if its at a constant speed, gas mileage is typically better
)
i asked a mechanic a while back and he told me the motor isn't ment to stay at the same speed for extended periods of time, i'm not sure of the variance but i spend alot of time on the highway for 20-30 minutes at a time....................now i dont have cruise but i tend to stay at the same speed for the most part so i'm wondering if i need to change it up now and then

the only time i've heard of that is during break in period, I dont think it matters though after that, and even on cruise at the same speed the engine still gets different loads on uphill and downhills so the overall stress on the motor and tranny always changes like a changing speed.. I've cruised hours on same speed too many times and I havent had problems yet
