custom kick panels: paint and electrical Q's (updated w/pics)
I am about to start some fiberglass kick panel speaker enclosures and I'm trying to decide how to cover them. Paint them or wrap them in vinyl. What I really want is for them to look as close as possible to the color and texture as the stock panels but I don't know if I can figure out how to achieve this. I don't want them to be super glossy and stand out really bad. I was thinking of trying the duplicolor truck bed coating. The aerosol can not the roll on kind. What do you guys think of this stuff? Is it the look I am going for? Anybody have any experience with it or seen it in person? Any other suggestions to get the stock look that I want?

I think I'll get a can of the bed liner and test it out on something to see how it looks. But I'm thinking way ahead. I still haven't even started, just gathering everything I need before I start.
I do have one concern though. There is a bunch of wires and harnesses behind the kick panels, especially the driver side. I can work around them but since space is so limited I was thinking of trying to move all of them. I'll have to lengthen some of the wires because the way it is it can't be moved. But I'm not sure if doing this could damage anything or cause any problems. I'm no electrical expert. I'm guessing I should disconnect the battery before cutting any wires. Any suggestions?

So I looked into what it would take to move those wires out of the way and I think I can do it no problem.
On the drivers side I'll have to disconnect 3 maybe 4 harness clips and add about 6 inches to the 22 wires. Then I'll have the extra length to push the whole cluster of them up and out of the way. That will give me so much more room for my speaker and my left foot. I might even be able to keep the dead pedal.
The passenger side will be even easier. I'll only have to lengthen 7 wires, maybe not even that.

im in the finishing stages of mine...i just unbolted the wires and what not and pushed the harness and everything up..and taped the wire down and fiberglassed over that tape to create a chanel. i need to find some oem texture paint
A good thing about the truck bed liner is it will take abuse well and I'm sure it will get kicked a lot.
Wow, this project has taken forever. It's a lot of work and I only have a few hours here and there to work on it. I'm finally done and I have pictures of the final product. I don't like taking pictures of the step by step as I build so I don't have any. Just the end result.
I have to say the color in the pictures really looks different than in person. They look so much darker than the rest of the plastic interior in the pictures, but in person they look much more similar. I did end up using the duplicolor truck bed liner and I'm happy with the result.
The speakers are the Pioneer Stage 4 TS-C172PRS and they sound amazing!

After all the work I put into them, the value is way higher to me than what they are actually worth. Honestly, I would not let them go for under a grand! LOL I know, that sounds crazy, but I really don't feel like making more.
And yes, I realize that maybe you were being a little sarcastic.
