well I got a sweet shift know but that damn shifter is so damn long I'm thinking about cutting it. Since the top of it is threaded, I dunno if I should cut a piece out of middle or jut cut the top and re=thread whats left?
What do you guys think??

How do you plan to reattach it if you cut it out of the middle. I'd cut from the top and rethread.

 

well I figured you could somehow reconnect it, solder or something, crazy glue and peanut butter as last resort

That will never hold. You would have to actually weld it and re-chrome it. If you cut it, you need to re-thread it.

 

Bubble gum and boogers would work better.

You've got to use the smooth peanut butter as the nuts in the chunky style will cause it to fit unevenly. I suggest using Jif as it has better adhesive properties. Then again I could totally be out of my mind, you make the call!

haha. peanut butter. lol. I have actually seen a guy cut his and just rethread it, turned out nice and clean

 

now I feel a little better cuz I know someone has done it before and it worked

the shift boot conversions looks sweet and I would do it once I'm done cutting

 

Shoulda just bought a manual car... Unless you are handicapped and missing your left leg. Then I could see buying the craptomatic. Just an opinion. But yes, you need to cut your shaft down (ouch!) and rethread the top. I would not suggest doing this in the car as there will be a huge mess with all of the blood, er, I mean shavings and such.

 

It's an automatic short shifter. LOL

 

Run the new threads before you cut the unwanted height off. Because the shaft is chromed, it's slightly oversize, and your die will (often) run off-center threads if you don't use the existing threading as a guide.

 

for my b&m i bought a tap and die set and rethreaded the shifter then i cut it down to the sixe i wanted, about 2in off.

 

Thats some swell advice right there!! The Doc knows his stuff!

 

i really don't see the point of shortening the actual shifter on an auto. but have fun. thumbs up!
