Wrong section.
But what did you hear was wrong about the D1?
I had mine for couple months and it works fine.

i have heard teh interface for the d1 is being updated. After playing witha d1 for the first time the other day(albeit at circuit city) i noticed that it is kind of a pain to navigate around. I am sure this goes away when you get familiar with it

You go to Umass, thats cool. I go to Lowell, how bout you.

Back on topic, if your gonna spend the money, just wait til the Avic-Z1 comes out. It should be better than both but it'll cost a little more. IMO, still worth it.

i am in lowell too. the z1 though, man its so much more expensive, and i dont need the harddrive, plus it will nearly double my system cost. not that i have a system, cause in lowell that stuff will get ganked.

d2 sitting steady at 1600 bucks..

the Z1 going for 2500... benefits of the Z1... hardrive, built in DVD player, HD radio, better navi, ... besides that... same thing...

i am personally waiting for my IVA-W200 to come in.. its alpines DD... no navi... but you can add it... i still havent decided if i am gonna go with the blackbird.,.. or the disk drive navi for it....

D2 is just a software update. More likely than not they'll provide the software update on CD for D1 owners like they did for the N1/N2, and you'll be able to buy the new map DVDs separately (and sell the ones that come with the D1 on eBay)

I say wait for the D2 to come out and then look for cheap D1's that stores/websites are tryingi to clearance out. Get the update from Pioneer (free/cheap) and then buy the new D2 maps from Pioneer and sell the ones that come with your D1 on eBay. You'll essentially have a D2 but will have paid much less, and you'll still be able to do the pinning-and-grounding trick to allow the screen to stay on while the vehicle is in motion... which I hear they're disabling on the D2.

GOOD CALL. The ground pin thing has been a concern in regards to teh d2. I saw a d2 on ebay for 1145. i think i will go with teh d1. If pioneer does not send out free discs, and i have to buy them, can a copy just be burned from a DL disc?? Where is the cheapest place to get a d1 and still get the warranty (amps and speakers i am not to afraid of, but the navi, so much to have something go wrong)??

sonicelectronix.com seems to have pretty good prices on stuff, anyone bought anything from them?

Anyone running any alphasonik subs?

I'm pretty sure they'll send you the disk.
I didn't even have to ask for it and they sent it, just make sure you register it.
