in dash dvd/nav head units! show us pics!
I am looking to gt a new double din, in dash, touch screen, nav, dvd/cd player. I currently have the avic d1 but am just ready for a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to get. I know the d3 is out there, and i like it alot, but doesnt eclipse and kenwood make a good one? can anyone post some pics of the mount, and maybe even links for more info on the unit? I am thinking about getting rid of the cd door cover altogether, so i need a good clean full mount from the unit inside the install area. Anything would be greatly appreciated guys!
After spending sometime searching for a unit I came to the conclusion it's a give and take trade off of the features you want/need across the board unless you got the loot to drop on a z2 or AVN7000 which can basically do it all.
I recently bought the Panasonic Strada CN-NVD905U - I think it's comparable to the d3 and if you search around can find it at about the same price. The Nav runs off a 30GB HD so the dvd slot remains free but unlike the D3 there is no divx support and you will have to shell out more money for ipod connectivity ($45). I'm one of the last people on earth with a non apple mp3 player so I could careless but I did have to drop another $90 to get an expansion bay with more slots for an aux-in adapter. For me that was cheaper, but if I had a ipod already I probably would've gone with the d3
I'm also thinking about trying an install without the radio door to see how it looks so I'll post pics when I get it done.

so what do you all think about your units? who really likes theirs and would recommend it? again, im looking for cd/mp3, nav, and dvd, with a touchscreen, and still able to use the door... socal, who makes this max675? how hard was it to recess back?
MAX675 is made by Clarion. I love mine. For the money, you simply cannot beat the MAX675/NAX970 combo.
To move it back, you just need to drill 4 new holes in the mounting brackets, about 5/16" straight back of the existing holes.

Its not a perfect unit, but then none of them are.
Plus side
Cleaner interface look over other units
Separate 30GB Navagation option plugs right into HU
Ipod Interface Rocks. Its the cleanest Ipod Interface I have seen. It looks and functions like an Ipod. List music by playlist, genre, artist, album, etc.. and the back button walks you right back to your last search option instead of having to start a new search. This makes it easy to go back to the last artist, genre, etc.. you selected and choose another song.
Ipod Video. I am having trouble getting Ipod Movies to display full widescreen so this might be considered a minus as well.
I think the silver trim parts make it look more like part of the TC.
Negative side
Tilt screen is nice but it tilts up so not very useful for the TC. If it tilted down then that would be nice.
No option to change color of buttons on edge.
Ugliest remote control on the planet.
If you make any DVD option changes, the movie starts over.
Must start Ipod Video through the Ipod. Not a big issue since you start the movie and from then on you can pause or skip ahead/back using interface.

I think my Alpine looks the cleanest. It has a portable nav option that isn't available yet, but docks INSIDE the headunit, plus you can remove it from the car and use it on its own so it is like two devices in one. The screen is great. There are some options for backgrounds and colors. It has PulseTouch so when you press the screen it feels like a button press.
My door closes, but like everyone else I had to redrill the holes to get it to fit.
Alpine's iPod interface is pretty much the best out of any of the manufacturers. It supports browsing by artist, album, genre, playlist, etc, just like the iPod.
