Default DEI 555U / 556U Wiring help

I am wiring a remote start system and using the 556U Immobilizer bypass. I have cut off the ring on the 556 and connected the two wires directly to the two wires on the factory ring. This type of instalation "did" work but it is not working any longer.

Is there an alternate way that I can hardwire this unit in or do I have to resort to the "ring method"? Any other DIY'ers care to clue me in on how you wired yours? Search returned little info.

Thanks in advance.

I have installed several of these and if I am not mistaken usually the wires from the ring/bypass are connected to the remote starts main box/controller. This is typically a Ground When Running Output.

Right I understand where you need to use one of the outputs of the remote start to activate the 556 but when you use the ring, can it be hardwired into the cars system or do you have to use the ring around the ignition? I tried the ring and didn't like the fit.

Thanks

Your supposed to just put the ring around the key cylinder. You can zip tie it on to make it tighter around the cylinder or just leave it loose and put the plastic steering column covers back on.

Yeah I figured everyone was using the ring method. I didn't like it sue to the fact that it interferes with the Factory transponder as well as the LED ring for the ignition illumination.

I guess I will find another way and post it here for future reference.

Cheers.

I believe the other way is to use a secondary key and then just wrap the key.

Jester, How many of these have you installed? Jsut curious, because you MUST have a secondary key to operate the bypass. Otherwise it just plain wont work unless you know the resistance value of the key and can wire that in to the circut, but then your immobilizer would not work at all.

Sorry not trying to flame, just wanted to clairify.

i have installed 15 to be exact, the last one I installed was on a Chevy Malibu which required the bypassmodule. However the bypass modules that I used did not require the use of the spare key. When I said I have done these I did not mean I have done them on the Scion, I believe all the Scion bypass modules require the use of a key
