Default disappointed in my recent readings on elemental designs

I ordered the stealth box and the sq10 and I have been reading nothing but horror stories about the speaker on websites other than SL. Are there any other speakers that will fit in that box that can handle more RMS and have a better record track or is the space so limited that only an ultra slim speaker like the sq10 will fit in there? please let me know as soon as possible because I am potentially going to cancel my order with ed....

Thanks ahead of time.

What have you read?

The SQ10 is awesome.

I'd also like to know the answer to this, but here is some food for thought...
It all probably depends on what your wants and expectations are.
Think about it... it's a single, slim 10" sub in a stealth box.
From what I remember, I only read good things about it on here... from people who actually have it... people who aren't expecting to shatter windows with it.

I don't know what negative things other people on other pages are saying, but maybe they simply want more bass. How much bass can one expect from a single, slim 10" in a stealth box? And for that price?

People have called it "100 times better than the stock sub."
I'm not an uber car audio nut, but I do appreciate and love good music coming through a good stereo.
The stock sub sounds pretty good to me, FOR WHAT IT IS... A STOCK SUB.
Now imagine "100 times better than that"... sounds like it will suit my needs and expecations just fine.... maybe yours too.
I guess it just depends on how crazy of a system you want. Something that sounds great, doesn't break your bank and take up your trunk space... or something that people are going to hear from blocks away. (waste of money, trunk space, cargo weight, etc.)

It's not exactly an answer to your question, but hopefully it gives you a new and better perspective to look at the situation from.
It's only $70. Worst case scenario: You end up not liking it and try to sell it on here for a small loss.

I do have a question of my own, though... sorry to intrude.

On the Elemental Designs webpage, when I view the SQ10, why is there a "select voice coil" option? (options are 2 and 4)
Can someone please explain that?

Do you want 2ohm or 4ohm? Do you have an amp in mind?

Don't worry about what you read on other sites. Most people that hate on eD have no idea why they are hating... they just hate because everybody else does. There were some things in the past that got taken way out of hand resulting in the name eduh... you will not be dissapointed with eD products or customer service.

I have a RF P400-2...it's actual RMS on its birthsheet is 534 watts RMS x 1 channel @ 4 ohms. I am thinking I need a sub that can handle 400-500 watts RMS instead of this tiny 10". I think I might cancel my order for the sq10 and order one of their higher RMS 10's that fit into a small regular sealed box....Pherhaps maybe even a single 12".

To be honest with you I wasn't as disappointed with the volume as I was with the SQ. It sounded absolutely horrible to me. If you're dead set on eD, I'd try their downfiring box made for tC's. For SQ though, you really wouldn't believe how good it can be till you build your own box.

Do you know the specs on that downfiring box? Their webpage doesn't give any details on it... ?
I can tell from the pic that it's a single sub... I'm guessing either a 10" or a 12".
I actually kinda like the look of that. Hmm......

What made it so much better than the SQ10 stealth setup?

I don't know as I haven't tried it, it would just be your only other option if you're looking to let eD build you a box. If you just want a simple rectangle box you can take the measurements to any local audio shop and they should be able to have it done for you in 2-3 days. That downfiring enclosure is made for one 11Kv.2 which is a 10" model of their Kv line that handles 600w RMS.

it all depends on what youre looking for, i listen to mainly metal and rock, sometimes stuff like muse and daft punk. im very satisfied with it considering that im not one of those people that turns the bass up loud enough to drown out the song and then complain about getting headaches on long drives .

there is one thing about it tho, you have to put some sort of spacers on either the box itself or the hard mat that goes under the carpet in the trunk. if you dont it will rattle on top of the box when the bass hits hard. i used some of those large heavy duty felt things you put on the bottom of furniture to keep chairs and stuff from scratching up hardwood floors

bottom line, if you listen to alot of hip hop and like to "bump" around your neighborhood or are a sound quality nut this probably isnt for you

Ok so what I decided to do....

I emailed ED about returning the sub that should be here today (the sq10) and cancelling the build of the box for the sidemount in the tc. I inquired about replacing that set up with the ed 11ov.2 dual 2 ohm voice coil speaker in the .5cuft sealed ed sealed box with black carpet. I plan on wiring the voice coils so i have a 4ohm load at the bridged point on the RF P400-2 amp (rated at 534 watts rms x 1 @ 4ohms). I should have done more research on ED product before jumping into it blind. I got a bit carried away, I have to admit. I hope ED will be ok with my request and I offered to ship back the sq10 that should be here at my house via fedex. Crossing my fingers....

Its all about what you want, I like my sq10 for many reasons, its sounds great, I listen to everything rock, punk, rap, country, its good for all those, its 100% stealth, I didnt loose my trunk, the flap I have up at a 90deg so there is no rattle from that, There is also no temptation for theft since its not visable. The other box I looked at since I thought the bass might be wimpy was a More expensive JL stealthbox for the TC, it was a ton more money, and prolly hit harder. But it wasnt worth it to me. I was pretty shocked this lil box sounded so good for its size and 100% stealth, and not a ton of $$
Call them and see if you can hook it up and listen to it. I dont see a problem with them taking it back if you ship it back to them.. Bassically ask if they have a 'satisfaction guarantee' I think they do but I never had a 2nd thought to return mine.

Here is the JL $674.99 retail still stealth and a lil more work, but im sure its got to hit harder

I already emailed them about returning the sub that will be here today (the sq10) and cancelling production of the stealth box and replacing both with the above (2 posts up) mentioned set up. I hope they're cool with it....

Hmmm, my setup sounds pretty good. They aren't earth shaking but they do get the job done. 2 11kv.2s hooked to 1 kenwood 600W amp. *nods head* I did a pretty good job!
