Default DIY Installs

So I'ld love to work on my car more but I'm a bit...worried. I don't have much experience and the car is brand new. So far I've installed my head unit and wired it to the steering wheel controls as well as install an intake...but that's about it.

I want to install an amp under my seat(or behind rear seats if that's just too complex) and sub in the trunk as well as add some cold cathodes to my hatch and possibly LEDs in the rear cup holders. How difficult would this be to do? My main concern is running the wires from the front of the car to the rear as I'm pretty sure I'ld have to be pullin some stuff open.

Any thoughts, tips, and/or motivation would be great.

I have taken a look at Mando's gutting your tC guide as well as a few other DIY lighting guides.

Also, what warranties would I be voiding? I assume anything that's caused by my install...but is that it?

If you don't fuse the properly and something goes wrong, you could be in a world of pain. But I doubt that will happen. Just find out how much amperage can go through the guage of wire you plan on using, then how much amps the actual amp will be drawing. Use a fuse of proper amperage accordingly.

Not an expert on lighting though.

I will be putting speakers and 130sq.ft of eDead in myself pretty soon here, and all i'm using is Mandos's guide. *thumbs up*

Honestly, there's not a lot to worry about when wiring up the tC. Most of the car comes apart VERY easily (yay for lego cars!). The toughest part, imo, is figuring out where/how to run the power wires for things like lights and amps. The best way to go would be find a friend that either knows cars or knows car audio to give you a hand, or just ask more specific questions here.

I'd read my walkthrough.

And I'd put amps behind the rear panels if they fit there...really nice and stealth.

How do you adjust settings? Or are you just that good?

you don't need to adjust them every day.

I would. I've done all the reading in the world, but haven't actually set the gain/crossovers. I wouldn't get it right the first time.
But Mandos not only does it for a living, he can probably get behind that panel in 5 minutes if need be.

the cold cathodes shouldn't be a problem for you if you did the hu yourself. oznium has really good cold cathodes.you can use this thing called add a circuit. they cost about 8 bucks at pepboys.it splices into a regular fuse while adding a new one for the new product.

Thanks for all the replies guys. If I can install the cold cathodes in the hatch then I shouldn't have any problems installing an amp in the hutch either from what you all are telling me. Now to see about installing it under the seat...removing the entire seat sounds kinda scary

are you gonna have a box for the amp if so why don't you just mount the amp on top of the box

In any other car, yes. But like somebody stated, this car is like legos. Well, 10-14mm bolt legos.

I'm completely comfortable taking the inside of the car apart. Huge props to Mandos though for the write-up that i've literally analyzed.

Cool...that's a bit of a relief I suppose.

Because I'm afraid of getting my stuff jacked. If it's mounted under a seat it's a lot harder to steal. Not to mention it'll look a bit cleaner as well

I mounted my amp in my spare tire. Of course you need an amp that will fit in there, but my rather large Kenwood amp fits just perfectly. Then its hidden out of the way and can be gotten to rather easily. I left the wires long enought so in the event that I need the spare, I just lift the amp out and take the spare out from under it. JUST DON'T EVER MOUNT AN AMP ON A SUB BOX, its a thiefs dream all-in-one package.

Seats aren't that bad, just a couple clips and a few bolts really. Just be careful of the seatbelt sensor wires. In other words, don't just unbolt and rip em out, go slow =P

Mandos walkthrough is a necessity, IMO, for anyone that owns a tC. I've read it 2-3 times now and it gave me all the info I need =)
