Does anyone know how to make a circuit like the dome lights act?

Specifically, when given a signal a load of lights will fade on and then stay on - when the signal is disengaged the lights fade off. Anyone a wiz with circuits? There are diagrams out on the web but it's greek to me...

probably one of the sites with diagrams you probably found...

diagrams just show different symbols of types of components.. once you identify them.. go out.. purchase and wire it up...
