Default Double Din Unit?

im looking to replace the stock unit on my Tc
and i been looking at some DOuble Dins
and i was wondering for all the people out there that has one
what would be the best product that is out right now to get and has all the great features like the Ipod, navigation, radio, cd, dvd, audio EQ, and a Head Unit with good wattage so if i decide to upgrade my speakers also, i have a good UNIT..

something that i saw, callled the Pioneer AVIC-D3, would something like dis be a good unit

or is there better ones

The D3 is a solid choice. If you want to save 500+ bucks and deal without in dash navi but have everything else, you could spring for the Pioneer AVHP4000DVD or the newer version AVHP4100DVD. Here is a pic of my 4000. No navi but everything else.

I have the D3 and love it. The vehicle dynamics is pretty cool too. Pioneer is releasing some new models pretty soon. The U, X and Z series I beleive. They discontinued the F series cause they had a bunch of problems with them.

Whatever unit you decide to go with make sure you drill out 1/4 inch holes on the bracket to mount the head unit a little farther back. Just so you can close the door.

Kenwood DNX series FTW!

After the F series debacle with Pioneer, I went through 2 F900's and 1 F90, I don't want to try Pioneer again. They did just release a new SW update for the F-series, I got the email a few days ago (2.006).

Mine closes just fine. The D3 has a longer volume **** so it hits the door. The 4000 has a much thinner one. They are interchangable last I checked though.

With the vast majority of double dins, especially those with motorized faces, the door does not close without the top of the waterfall pulling out without drilling the holes. Drilling the holes helps the unit fit back that extra quarter to half inch necessary to insure a flush fit around all the sides and the door closes smoothly without contact with the unit.

Point is...drill the holes, you'll be better off in either case.

That's nice....glad you like it.

I had 3 and the load times were abysmal. I kept it until v2 was released and it was still poop, although it did get better, still poop.

I had mine replaced 3 times by the vendor and twice by Pioneer....they were still trash.

USB would not work, unit would randomly reboot, the GPS was off by miles, iPod functionality was poor when it decided to work...just all around garbage....hook an iPod to it and you'll make it to your destination before it fully loads.

I tried the F90...still garbage.

I figured if they were so great Pioneer would not have discontinued them after 5 months.

Stay away from the F-series if you can.

I've had no experience with the F series but I know for a fact that the 4000DVD and the D3 are great units. Absolutely no complaints from either and I've installed each of them around 15 times in various cars from 05+ mustangs to our TC's. Fit and finish looks OEM and very easy to use and customize with no problems.

Not really...if you do that you'll wait forever. New models arrive every year.

I would say get the D3 if you can or a Z series pioneer. If you want to focus more on navigation then Kenwood might be better. But I love my D3 and wont let it go.

I love Alpine head units but in my opinion the best unit out right now is the DNX9140.

Surprisingly, the Eclipse HDD Navi units are extremely easy to use in regards to navigation and are only matched in abilities by Alpine based on my experience but I am biased towards the D3. The user interface on all the other features in the Eclipse units are a pita to use but the navi is really easy. I kind of feel that way about Alpine also but the Alpines tend to last a bit longer than Eclipse. I have no recent experience with Kenwood. I've written them out of my book based on prior horror stories but in the world of 12Volt accessories, things change very rapidly so they very well may be top notch now-a-days. As far as auxiliary GPS units go, Garmin is king ____ on terd island in my book. Very durable and you can teach your grandmother how to use it in minutes. I used to sell about 3,000 bucks worth of Garmins to elderly people here in Florida before lunch everyday at Circuit City before it went under
