Drained Battery = No Auto Windows
Hello,
Recently I switched out my interior lighting (dome / courtesy lights) to LEDs I bought from superbrightLEDs. For some reason, when I have my dome light set to "door", and the doors are all shut, the middle LED is still (very dim but) on. I went on vacation without realizing this, and my battery was drained by the time I returned.
I jump started the car and its been running fine, but the light still doesn't turn off when its set to "Door". I then noticed that my auto windows weren't working - they'll still go up and down, but if I press then window fully up or down, it doesn't keep going if I let go of the switch. After taking it into the dealer, they said it was a problem with the aftermarket LED. It drained the car battery, thus making the "computer that controls the windows" to "loose its memory" = no auto windows.
Does this sound accurate?
I don't see how the light bulb can draw electricity if its not supposed to be on. If I put a light bulb in my house light socket, and the switch is off, why would the light still be dimmed? I don't fully understand this, and don't see how the actual bulb is at fault.
They said to replace the stock lights and fix the "window computer" it would be around $109.
Is there a way I can reset the window's computer and "re-initialize" it by myself? Is $109 a fair price?
Thanks,
Brett

I hope you haven't spent ANY money yet, because $109 will be that guys Christmas bonus!
Whenever the negative wire of the battery is removed for however long it takes, 10 minutes I think, the sunroof and window controls must re-learn. It sounds stupid, but I had to remove it when I installed my head unit and a bluetooth box. It'll fix itself in time. Just keep trying to use them.
I can't explain the light staying on though. I'd re-charge your battery, then disconnect it and figure out what is causing it,

Thanks for the response. I'll hold off on having them fix it. Any idea how long it'll take to fix itself? I jumpstarted my car, and it has recharged since then, and I keep the dome light switch on "off" so the light stays off even if the doors are open. I like having them on when the doors open (courtesy), but I can definitely live without it for now.
Any suggestions on how I figure out whats causing the light to stay on?
Thanks,
Brett

LED's use so little power that I doubt the light itself is causing your battery to die. Have you tried switching it back to see if it does the same thing with the factory bulb? It sounds like there could be a problem with your switch. It is obviously not doing what a switch is supposed to do( cut off the power). If the battery is low on power you windows often will not work b/c it is conserving power. I cannot see how your window memory could go bad by the battery dying. If that was the case you would have to replace or repair parts everytime the battery dies. I would replace the original bulb and get a second oppinion(w/o telling them what the other dealer said or mentioning the LED bulb). Just tell them that your battery died and now you windows won't work, then see what they say.
First, resetting your windows, locks, etc is in your manual. There is a section covering that. Simple as pie to do, but read your manual so you dont get ripped off by people like this guy trying to charge you money for a 5 minute fix (including replacing the stock bulb). Sorry to sound rude.. I dont mean to, but I cant believe how many people dont read thier manuals. There is no need to wait til it fixes itself, fix a "window computer" etc. Simply follow the directions that came with the car to fix it.
If the light is still on when the doors are closed, then you have some other issue, even being that there is some type of short from the led unit you used to ground. If the switch controls the ground side, then that could be your issue.
I dont know how thier unit is set up (I dont see buying an led dome light module which takes someone with a soldering iron.. very little experience and a few cheap parts 10 minutes to build for the money some of these go for), but switch back to your stock bulb. If that fixes the issue, then get your money back on the dome module you bought.
But whatever you do, dont pay that moron $100 to "fix" something that isnt broken.

$109!?!? OMG...
no! just reset your windows man! it's even located in the manual somewhere... (good book to read through)
and leds drain so little power.. i've left things on overnight multiple times and could possibly run all my led lights on for weeks continuously without any issue.
you got something else going on that you need to figure out.

I disconnected my battery once and my windows and sunroof stopped working the way they should, I just held the buttons the way the manual states and they work perfectly. No "computer that controls the windows" problems or anything.

Alright..... After looking through the manual, I failed to find the section on how to reset the windows. Can somebody point me toward the section / page where this is described, or even the title of the section in the tc 05 manual?
Thanks,
Brett

check the tech section on here for the TC. There is a link to the 05 tc repair manual and if you go down to the glass and mirror section there is a post on resetting the power window switch. hope this helps

Thanks for the links. I admit I didn't see fujitech's post
.
But either way, when i printed out the isntructions and went to do it, the windows were fixed - just as Zebman said, they would fix themself!
Thanks for all the help. I'm going to put in the old bulbs now and see if that changes the ---dimmed lights when doors are closed--- problem.

open window halfway - close window and hold window close for 10 seconds - light on switch will stop flashing. repeat on passenger side. Everytime I take the door off to do work on system I have to go through this process. Takes no time at all. Don't pay to have someone open and close your windows for you.
edit:: too late...you got it.
