Default Eclipse owners: Installing IPC-106 help!

I just got the ipod controller for my eclipse hu. It's a fairly easy install but my question is, which wire can I tap for power? The (least than helpful) manual said that I should run the power to the battery. Can I tap it into the stock radio harness? If so, which one? Thanks for the help!

i believe you can tap the GREY wire at the oem radio harness. that wire is only powered with the key ON. i think it's safe to run the IPC-106 from there, but i'm not sure how much power it actually draws.

i tapped mine at the interior fuse/relay panel

Does it need constant or switch power? If it needs switch you can go to the cig lighter it has power and ground. Or you can go to the radio harness and get both there also. That module doesn't use much power.

i don't remember, i have quite a few wires in my dash. i used a power probe/test light to find a wire to tap.

i don't think that really matters, but i prefer to have it shut off when the car is off so there's less battery drain, but it's up to the owner

It does matter on a lot of mudules. Some will drain your battery if you hook them to constant. Others if you only connect to switch will not retain memory or work properly.

i don't recall, but i believe the install book said to hook it up to battery.

the only big drain would be from leaving the ipod hooked up all the time while the car is off keeping the ipod fully charged. there's no memory in the interface, last played song is kept in the ipod itself.

Thanks for everyone's help...I tapped into the radio harness and everything works. Too bad my hu isn't sirius ready so I cant see the display of the song, etc. But it;s better than using an aux cable and controlling it from the ipod...
