Default Engine start button

I was thinking of getting a start button for me tC. I'm sure this has already been done. How did it turn out? Also, did you bypass the need for the key? Pics would be great!

i haven't seen it done.. if so... it probably wouldn't be clean as you still need the key in the ignition... and don't remember recalling any pics...

better to just insert the key and turn it.. then to put in key and press... extra movement not worth the moeny spent.... not practical for a non-show car.

even remote start is a more showy option... imo.

and yea.... question was asked before like always..

for bypassing.... you have to give up one of your keys to use the chip inside..... which at that point you're basically rendering the stock engine immobilizer system useless.

you'd need that for remote start though.... for the button... you would still have to insert the key.. and that should be fine for the most part.

Hmmm.....If you were to integrate a start button, you also would have to bypass the immobilizer system and steering wheel lock.

To bypass the immobilizer, I would remove the immobilizer sensor ring around the ignition cylinder and relocate that ring in the dash with your valet key in the center of the ring taped to it. Not sure how to bypass the steering lock though.

Or, you could just use your KEY to start the car.

Too many opportunities for something to go wrong, then you wouldn't have a running car. That would suck the big one.

Thanks for that MJVsTC Capt. Obvious! I want the start button for show. It would be something different for my tC. It's not an issue of laziness

Well if that's the case, glue one to your dash board.

so how does it work with the new lexus models? They still have security. What would it take to make it work like that and still have keyless entry?

Well for someone who has arthritis, it's nice for them to just push a button. That's why toyota is designing their ignition switches for the ease of use for anybody with a handicapped hand or arm

they still have security because you probably still need to insert a key or a fob type device...

the fob type device is what the prius uses for sure.... and then there's that whole upgraded system where you only need to be in within certain proximity.. so you don't even have to take it out of your pocket..

at this point.. if you really want it.... trade in your car for a prius or lexus..

I believe LEXus uses the smart key system which doesn't require inserting. The smart key has a sending frequency that the car picks up if it is within range. Just like the toyota Avalons.
