Default F90BT installation

Ok so I was installing this unit w/a buddy all day today and we are probably finishing it tomorrow.

When we plugged in the ipod, and loaded up a video, I don't get the video; only sound. Also it gives me a warning sign that you aren't allowed to view videos while the car is in motion even though we did the bypass and the vehicle is parked. Are we missing something here?

Also how do I put the gps unit behind the a-pillar without triggering the side air bags?

Finally, I want to route the ipod cable to the center console and when we tried to remove the center console, the part wouldn't fully come off. How is everyone doing this?

All the help I can get is much appreciated

why don't you just hide the gps antenna under the dash? no need to route stuff into the pillar..

also.. yea.. sounds like you didn't bypass the unit correctly.

for removing the center console... did you pull hard enough? put some elbow grease in it buddy..

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna do that and put the gps antenna under the dash. You're right; it's a pain trying to re-route the wiring. But where under the dash are you recommending? Can you give specifics?

As for the center console piece; my buddy and I tried for a very long time trying to pull it out but it seems like there's still something connecting it. We took out the 4 screws attached. So we just yank it out? We didn't want to break anything you know.

Also, where do you recommend putting the bluetooth mic so it looks factory installed. I like a clean look. Thanks

the gps antenna can see thru plastic (the upper dash part fine)

i've placed a few installs right between the air vent and the upper dash area with no reception issues at all.

hmm.. now you have me slightly confused, what center console part are you actually trying to remove..? everything from the armrest to the front? the large piece?

why don't you just pull up on the cupholder piece and route it that way? you're going to need to remove that piece anyway..

the bluetooth mic looks and works best right in front of you connected in front of the speedometer. use the provided clip.

I have the F90bt,

you need to change the mute wires location and then tap the ground wire.
http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19689

Also, you need to drill in the indents on the brackets, so you can recess the headunit so the door will close

Mount the gps antenna under the airvent

Ok, perfect. So the gps antenna you're saying goes under that big center vent?

With the ipod, I'm trying to run the cable to the center console, where the arm rest is but had trouble removing that big piece. It wouldn't budge even after I took out the four screws. I tried removing that cup holder piece also but coudln't. You just need to pull it w/some force?

Not a big fan of the bluetooth mic up on the steering wheel though. I want to put it where the dome lights are. Would you know how to do that?

I followed the steps on the bypass. But couldn't get the video to come up. So I think I just need to ground the parking wire.

As for the drilling the brackets, I've covered that. I checked to see the cover closes and it's good.

you do need to ground it, then it will all work. also, i put my mic in a empty switch hole on the switch role, works great.

You need to lift the parking brake, shift to neutral, take off the shift ****, pull that bottom peice off, then pull the cupholder piece off, you need to give it some force.

It says in the manual and people in the forums told me the parking wire HAS to be grounded.
That's probably why I didn't get video when I tried. Don't I need to hook it up to the ebrake so it knows when its on or off?

The mic placement you mentioned; is like this one, right?

But if you place it there, would the other end hear the passenger, if when someones sitting there?

The way I got my iPod video to work on my f700 was by grounding the parking brake wire AND doing the "software bypass" by changing the parking_brake_speed setting in one of the pioneer .ini files to 128 (from the default which was 16)

here's the post on avic411.com

I grounded the parking wire so the video and bypass works now.

As for the gps antenna; which area do u mean under the air vent? Is it the on that black plastic piece under the vent?

As you can see on the picture, I placed mine to the right of the head unit.

Tested out the navigation and it works fine

Actually, I think the best place for the mic is above the rear view mirror. It clips right on to the headliner. Then just run the wire under the top headliner (give a nice tug to push the wire up under) down underneath the drivers side a-pillar - then under the front of the dash and into the avic. That's how I have mine and I works good.

I guess if you wanted to mount it there you could knockout one of the plastic thingys (pull out the fuse box cover for better access) and measure the diameter of the mic. Then drill an opening (in the plastic thing you knocked out) so the mic fits through the hole in plastic thingy. Then use some rubber cement behind the hole to secure it. That's how I would do it anyway.

I want the factory look so it looks hidden and clean. Also I didn't want to wire through the a-pillar since I didn't want to mess around w/the side air bags.

Anyway, to drill through one of the knockouts for the bt mic, can I just use that 3/16" drill bit that I used for the metal bracket holess that holds the head unit?

measure it to see how wide it is first before you drill

So I just got it routed and I've tested the voice recognition features and used the phone w/the
mic. On the phone, I was glad the person on the other end said it sounds normal, just not as good as talking directly to the phone. To better the quality I had to lower the volume on the head unit during the call. For the VR, its an on and off thing. But I think that's not because of the mic placement but it's a problem in the VR software and everythingt. It definitely needs some work. I love the VR feature though, especially for me since I drive a manual car so it's convinient. I hope they improve it in the next firmware update as well as other bugs.

After installing the F90BT, I now have a problem. The passenger side window is not opening or closing. Does anyone know why? Please help

see the light blue foam? that is the gps ant. There's a depression there that fits the ant. & some foam nicely. Foam helps keep the ant. in place.
