Factory Bazooka Sub w/ aftermarket head unit?
I did a search but was unsuccessful at finding anything. Here's what I'm trying to find out. Will the factory installed Bazooka enclosure work with the Eclipse avn5435? I've read on here that the factory harness plugs right into the Eclipse, so does that mean that I'll still be able to use the sub without having to modify anything?

"bump, im wondering the same... because if people bought the sub and ended up switching to an aftermarket headunit what are they suppose to do with the sub?"
Good Question, I have got the Sub also...changed my deck...went to the scion site, and as far as I know it is a dual voice coil at 100watts peak, Just Got a 1/2 channel power amp rated at 150 watts RMS (bridged) for xmas and I am not sure if the 10" Bazooka will take the gain. Scion is not disclosing much info about the sub or the closure...even though it looks neat back there, your probably better off throwing the factory woofer to the dogs and starting from scratch!!

To answer your question.. No the factory Bass amp is garbage, your AM head unit will not read it as a bass amp, take it out of the closure, THROW IT AWAY and try to use the closure/woofer with an AM amp. I am guessing the sub (Bazooka dual voice coil at 100watts peak) should be at least 4 ohms, if so, I will install the aftermarket power amp I got for Xmas and let you know how it sounds...
For all of you planning to install an AM deck in your tC and got stuck with this factory sub in your car... and
if you actually added this
option
OK.. Here is the deal with the 10" tC Bazooka factory Sub woofer
1) It is a 4-ohm sub, dual voice coil, 2ohms per coil
2) 100 watts peak...guesstimating...50watts peak per coil, that should be somewhere around 25 watts RMS per coil...logical? Would think so....for some reason ...
That THING Bazooka calls an amp inside the closure is designed to work with the factory head unit whoever is saying it is compatible with an AM Eclipse deck..they have already voided the warranty....we will let them screw with it! I have tried...just cannot get that THING to behave like a Sub woofer amp. good luck tring to find out from Bazooka oSo;
First off ...if your like me you’re dead set on keeping the factory look, there is going to be compromises, want to blast the bass AND VIBRATE DOWN STREET
....NOPE....Bazooka has tuned the enclosure to that particular speaker so a better AM speaker will not sound the way it should.
don't waste your money, unless your like my friend and want your DMX turned up to 9, the scion sub should be fine.
I got a dreaded Best Buy DUAL PBA2150 for Xmas and Installed it on the back of the rear passenger seat under the shade thing (if you do not like DUAL products and want to spend more then $70. for the same effect there is the Alpine MRP-T220 for twice the ivy) both AM amps are inexpensive and match up pretty damn good to the Scion tC Bazooka Sub/Enclosure
1) Save the sub and enclosure
2) Rip that THING out of the enclosure (Bazooka amp)and THROW IT AWAY
3) Wire the factory Sub in series making it one 4ohm coil bridged to the DUAL or Alpine amp
4) Turn down all the gains on the DUAL or the Alpine
Put every thing in the right place and turn on the head unit, go to the subwoofer option and adjust the Bass to your favorite place
5) Adjust the gains on the DUAL or the Alpine...Very carefully. Leave enough room in case strange hands decide to increase the volume[img]

I was thinking when my bazooka blows, to put an aftermarket sub in there and putting an aftermarket amp in the compartment spot. Does anyone think this idea would work?
I know I will have to get an adapter get and so on...

Cmon, give them a break. Its not like someone actually typed that out and mailed it to you. All of these are generic and already printed. They send those out to ANYONE who asks about aftermarket modifications(changing bulbs in your dome: to turbo's)
On another note, Crutchfield claims that according to their research, I will not lose the factory subwoofer by switching to an aftermarket head unit. I know that if you buy an aftermarket head unit from them, they send you detailed instructions for your specific vehicle so hopefully those instructions will address this issue. They did acknowledge that in some vehicles you lose dealer installed subwoofers when you go with an aftermarket head unit, but they say that is not the case with the tC. The only thing they say you would lose is the factory installed XM. Good thing I didn't go for that option.
TRDaddiction, the way you have the sub running with the DUAL amp, do you feel more thump compared to the factory setup? Did you install the amp yourself or did best buy do it for you?

i don't think it's bad. i actually like it. it doesn't compare to the sub in my previous ride, but i'm older now and care about my ears so this sub is good enough for the daily driver that just wants a better all-around sound without necessarily making alarms go off. i want to keep my factory sub. what i am trying to change is the stereo and at the same time keep the sub. i think i'm just going to purchase my stereo and install it. if worse comes to worse and i can't get it to work with the factory sub, i will probably do what TRDaddiction did, that is, to purchase an inexpensive amp and wire it to power the sub.
Yes, the two Best Buy amps that I have previously posted; DUAL PBA2150, Alpine MRP-T220 work well with the Scion/ Bazooka Daul voice coil (@75wRMS-100wPK) and if you decide to get a BETTER 300 w AM SUB/ENCLOSURE down the road you are already wired for sound!
BUT you must wire the speaker /Scion /Bazooka coils in series i.e. Connect the right (+) to the right (-) on the coils and the remaining coil (+) terminal to the bridged (+) on the amp and the remaining coil (-) terminal to the bridged (-) on the amp. This way the AM power amp will see the daul voice coil as 4ohms. Turn down all the gains and adjust them gradually by ear.....use a speaker terminal, super glue and some sheet styrene to plug up that hole in the Scion enclosure from the old harness ...... If you want the TECS. at Best Buy to install the amp it is going to cost you 90. For the wiring kit + 72. For installation , if you have a soldering iron and tools DO IT YOUR SELF it is not hard……. I will try to get pics on or if your serious leave a post and I will e-mail them to you
This Scion Bazooka Sub is NOT BAD, and adds the perfect amount of back-boom for your 200w AM head unit BUT is not going to sound like a 700watt SUB/closure because IT IS NOT
If you want raw (noisy) bass power put your scion sub on e
