Final thoughts / questions about Installing my iPod Nano
Okay, so I’ve decided to buy the toy03 aux kit for my stock 05 headunit. However I still need to buy either some 'mini jack to rca' cables or something that will convert my dock connector wire to rca's such as this one...

So here is my question / concern.
Is it worth spending an extra $20 or so to use the dock connector (shown in the pic) as apposed to a ‘mini jack to rca’ cable which uses the headphones jack instead?
My main concern is that when I listen to my iPod nano w/ headphones sometimes one earphone won't play music as loud as the other one, or won’t play it at all. For those of you who have hooked up your iPod via your headphone jack, have you noticed any loss of sound quality?
And lastly. If I decide to go with the mini plug to rca cable; where can I find a mini plug which is as thin as the headphones one? Because using something bulky would look very ugly since the nano is so thin.
Thanks in advance for all and any help. It is appreciated.
Greg

My advice is to get something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=149006 The signal coming through the dock connector is the line-out signal and not the one thats been put through the amp like that of the head phones. I have the autokit form belkin and love the fact it charges my ipod while giving me a line-out to run into my toy03-aux.
That seems pretty cool. Its kind of expensive though. I'm gonna be looking for something similar to that but a little cheaper hopefully.
Thanks for the advice though johnny, if i can't find anything else, i might just buy that.
Greg.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend...if money is not a concern, then there is no reason to NOT get a dock-connector.
I have 60GB Ipod and use the headphone jack to RCA and haven't had any problems what so ever. However, I would say that had I known they made a dock connector-to-RCA cable, I would have gone that way to begin with. Now that you've been so kind to show me that one exists, I'll probably go back and change my set-up and get one.
The only downside I can see is that the $20 dock connector doesn't recharge the ipod, which means having to disconnect it from your stereo when you do need to charge it. But that's not a big deal.
As far as your headphones going out or being lower volume... I know you might be skeptical to believe it, but it's most likely your headphones period. Probably a loose wire in there somewhere, or just bad headphones in general. Try different headphones...borrow your friends or something, but I don't think that's an Ipod problem (and if it doesn happen with different headphones, then I would begin to think something is wrong with your Nano).
The other great thing is that the TOY03 AUX box has 2 inputs...and my friends just got me a Sirius radio for my b-day...so I could buy that dock connector above for my ipod, then use the existing jack-to-RCA for the Sirius. Sweet.

Well... The charger is actually pretty cool, but i would still need to buy either a wire to go from my ipod (either through the headphone jack or dock connector) to my adapter. So this doesn't really help me at this point.
And sadly... money is a concern. But i think its still worth an extra 15 - 20 bucks to connect my nano through the dock connector as oppossed to the headphone jack.
What do you think? And if you haven't had any problems with the headphone to rca connection why are you gonna change it?

Because I can. :D
I haven't had problems...but that doesn't mean I wouldn't look for better quality, and supposedly connecting via the dock connector is better quality...so why not. I have to get around to installing a second input for the Sirius radio, so I might as well go ahead and do it all together.
I would go with the dock connector. It's really not THAT expensive ($20 as opposed to a $6 jack-to-RCA cable) and supposedly provides better sound quality. You also made your point about the Nano's size VS headphone jacks; you also mentioned your problems w/ headphones w/ your Nano; and it is neither more or less difficult to install the dock connector to the TOY03...so I think the choice is obvious.
