Default FYI on xbox instal

after about the 100th or so time trying to mount an xobx so i've come to the conclusion that an xbox (prolly the best system to put in ur vehicle) should not be installed in your car

u CANNOT mount anywhere except the trunk (which if u have a sub will rape ur harddrive unless its a laptophd which will still do some damage)

i tried the glove box and underneath the seats with and without the case (yes just the boards) and also without the hd and dvddrive ; i even modified the case to b slimmer still wont go under the seats

i did not want to cut the glove box

some1 please prove me wrong and show me a good mounting place for the xbox (with housing or not)

ohh by the way being able to have a collect of movies and mp3s and games in 1 box is without the use of discs and all i need to control it is a controler or a remote is 1 of the most sexyest things ever

sorry its alittle blurry

kudos on the modded xbox. I see you have the X3 chip.

My suggestion is to take apart the xbox, and install it INSIDE the car (hide it in the panels). Install the DVD-rom drive above your in-dash monitor. That would be nice.

What problems did you hear of? If installed properly (to an inverter fused at the battery), there should be no problems.

Xbox won't retain any memory, but thats better than draining your battery.

ive heard about many audio problems and how it isnt getting enough power to function right.

Ive had no experience with this, so i cant say i have had any problems, but i have brought up the topic in conversation, and this is what ive heard.

Im not worried about retaining memory, as long as it plays and sounds ok.

The Xbox does draw more power than the PS2, and I always recommend a 400W (800W max) inverter to run the xbox. The inverter must be power and fused directly from the battery (just like an amplifier). No cigarette lighter installs!! This will be enough power for it to run properly. As for audio problems, that all depends on your audio system, but I used to have an xbox in my car for a while, and never had any problems. Sounded just as good as a CD or DVD (assuming you use direct auxiliary inputs - not FM modulators).

well i trying installing the xbox everywhere i took the case out (only the boards and drives). nowhere xcept the hatch area. will not fit under the seats wont fit in glove box. i was thinking in the monstrous space behind the centerconsole but way to hot i even thought about the doors but then again (opencloseopenclose isn't cool) but the xbox sound quality is pretty good almost cd quality

and also on the dvd drive instal indash. it is unlikely. you cannot extend the idecable more than 18" or else problems or unless u switch to sata or something

i believe the xbox runs ~95watts where as the ps2 about ~40watts
i'm running a 180watt inverter gotta double check though. it is hardwire (not through cigarette lighter)

i found out why my screen flickers. it wasn't because of my subs and it messing with the signal. it is because my subs is sucking up power. i ran a fused wire from my battery to a distributorblock and 1goes to amp+cap+sub and another goes to inverter+xbox. soo im gonna move my distributor block after my cap that may help or just get a better alternator and/or upgradetodeepcyclebattery

yes x3 thanks very good chip btw

and the problems that only concern me is my sub and the road vibrating my harddrive but i heard laptop harddrives will cure this concern and/or mounting your harddrive on its side (so vertically) helps reduce vibrations from road idk about subs.

edit: any1 have any suggestions that theyd like me to try or check on with this instal? im going to check the back panels where the speakers are and see how much room there is there

Over the weekend I mounted my Xbox 360 using a 400 watt inverter. The 360 sucks so much power that I have to keep my car running or the inverter see such a low voltage that it wants to auto shut off. I would probably be okay if I didn't have the other three amps and two screens running. I am a bit worried about the hard drive so I'll probably only put in my 360 in at shows.

^^ probably good idea... have an external source during the show.... which usually costs a bit...

well.. for indoor shows anyway.. (where you can't have your battery connected)

have you switched out ur battery to a deep cycle battery? and if u want to get serious switch out ur alternator or get it rewound + a deep cycle (it would help ur application damn 3amps and screens and im assuming subs) but ya the 360 is way to much power (i believe its double the originalxbox) but u do get to use those wireless controllers upto ~30ft (i did try the logitech wireless controler for the regularxbox and was able to use it outside the car with windows up n doors closed)

i can prove this statement wrong. once i got my 360, the only place for my first gen xbox was the car, 'natch.

wrong. wrong. wrong. That's just what the MAN want's you to believe know_fun. The MAN is always trying to keep us down. F the Man. F him hard. Oh and the statement about SATA...i don't even understand that one. the drive controller is IDE, the stock drive is IDE. Only if you got a SATA drive on a moddex XBOX..and that's a big maybe.

The problem could also be your inverter. if the power is near your video feed, interference could be the the culprit.check your placement.

your other problem will be heat.

Sorry to sound like a smarta$$, but I started on my xbox journey several months ago. This is what i learned, aside from patience....DON'T BELIEVE WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU.

I know what comes next from you SL guys. Pics, pics, or i'll be damned to hell. Yeah, I know the drill. I'm working on updating my site with pics and it should be another day or so. Along with info about the install. Until then you can call me a liar!

i cut my box in half and it still wouldnt fit

the ps2 doesnt drain ur battery as fast but also since u put ur inverter in the 12voutlet it should turn off and on as ur car does. it not bad but its better if its hardwired because of power issues (especially cause of our small alternator). its not that hard to do. you need to cut the cord before the plug; and theres 2wires (the ground and the power) you just need to figure out which is which and ground the ground and wire the power to the car battery and ur hardwired (bewarned the inverter stays on so you need to put a switch on the powercord to on or off or else ur batterydrains; now u can play even when your car is off wooo)

ohhhhhh and for you people that have their xboxs in there car with an inverter and want your xbox to turn on when you turn on ur inverter. theres a free way of doing it no modchip or opening the xbox or anything. just make it so that your xbox's powerbutton is always pushed in and all you need to do is control the inverters on/off
